Being an NCAA product, once he signs he loses NCAA eligibility so we won't see him until his college season ends sometime in late March or early April. I would say we are sure to get him. This is his 2nd year in college and it seems unlikely he would return for a 3rd considering he is very development focused and the NCAA just isn't going to help him grow much more. Also Buffalo could potentially burn an ELC year if they want and put him in Buffalo this year. 1 1
FrenchConnection44 Posted December 8, 2022 Report Posted December 8, 2022 Surely Levi will see the value of coming to a team like Buffalo with all the youth and potential. And the high scoring. 3

I am sure he watches the Sabres as much as he can plus gets a lot of communication from development staff and KA. 2 1 1

As I recall he seemed pretty excited to be here.

(And this preface to this comment isn't directed at your coment but merely the board's general feel post-BJs game. And the rest is kind of tongue in cheek. But ...) Given the irrational exuberance around here, Levi could very well end this year platooning w/Comrie & then leading them into the playoffs. He could become the Sabres miniature version of a Ken Dryden leading them into a surprise playoff run. Heck, would even settle for Steve Penney this year. 😉

MBD Posted December 9, 2022 Report Posted December 9, 2022 Speaking of Portillo, he's giving up 2.94 GAA and has a .902 SV%. Shoulda signed with the Sabres last year. Glad he didn't. 1

pi2000 Posted December 9, 2022 Report Posted December 9, 2022 Goalies prospects are weird. Portillo could in fact turn out to be the better goaltender long term. We just don't know... that's why you should draft a goalie every other draft or so. Need to keep the goalie pipeline stocked and eventually you'll catch lighting in a bottle. 4

Well they drafted Portillo in 2019 and traded for Levi in 2021, essentially drafting a goalie every other year, and Portillo is probably gone. Personally I think was scared-off by Levi. So taking a goalie that often might work against you.

JoeSchmoe Posted December 9, 2022 Report Posted December 9, 2022 Based on his poor performance, would Portillo even be picked up by another team should he not sign with the Sabres? He's not even in the top 50 of NCAA goaltenders for save percentage. 1

Personally, want to see a goalie taken every year. If you end up w/ too many of them do what the Snarks used to do; trade one for something else you need. There's ALWAYS somebody looking for a goalie. (Too often since trading away Miller it's been the Sabres.) Maybe that number retiring ceremony will finally snap the curse. And it's even in their designated valiant run to the finals but falling just short season. 😉 2

SwampD Posted January 1, 2023 Report Posted January 1, 2023 PSA Levi and N'Eastern are down 3-1 in the second against #9Harvad in the 2nd. Strike that. They just made it 3-2.
