What do you expect from Tage Thompson?

  1. 1. Which of these best describes what you think the Sabres will get from Thompson this year?

    • Legit point-per-game 1st-line centre, what we saw the 2nd half of last season was for real
    • Another 65-point season in a first-line role
    • He had a career year and will slip back a bit, 50-something points is likely
    • Last year was a blip, he's going to struggle and finish with 30-40 points

DEATH BY GIRAFFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love seeing a team mate come straight in to defend and Tage is big enough you don't need to worry about him fighting. This is good to see.

If Tage has to be the guy doing this regularly he needs to work on his form and balance a little. Has the reach, needs to learn to be patient and not over extend. Just hold the guy off with one hand and then unleash that "shot" with the other. He will only lose fights if gravity knocks him off his skates.

Yeah Chara was an uncoordinated oaf during his early fighting days then became the scariest fighter in the league due to his size.  While I don’t picture the same path for Tage, it would be nice if he got a few tips here and there.  Any coaches on this team with a pugilist history? Too lazy/inept to look it up.

Vegas has his over/under at 31.5. Same as Crosby, Gaudreau, Pettersson, & Caufield.  One less than T Meier, Reinhart and Laine.

How many more than Jack?

Who?

Jk. Not seeing Eichel on the Bet MGM app.

Here's who they are offering:
P Kane 25.5
Bergeron 27.5
Hyman 28.5
Huberdeau 28.5
Marner 29.5
Rust 29.5
Scheifele 30.5
Fiala 30.5
Tavares 30.5
Tager, Crosby, Johnny, Pettersson, Caufield, 31.5
Meier, Reinhard, Laine 32.5
M Tkachuk, J Norris, Landeskog, Lindholm, 33.5
Ehlers 34.5
Kucherov, Robertson, Forsberg, Point, 35.5
Stamkos, Aho, McKinnon, Zibanejad, Guentzel, 36.5
Barkov, Debrincat 38.5
Rantanen, Pastrnak, 39.5
Kreider, 40.5
Connor 42.5
Kaprizov, 43.5
Ovie 44.5
McDavid 45.5
Draisaitl 49.5
Matthews 57.5!!!!

So Vegas says at least 28 players in front of TT.  That seams reasonable.

No, Tage doesn't have to go the Chara route but he can be a guy nobody wants to mess with and he can jump in when needed. Because he's skilled you don't want to see him get hurt in a fight but you don't want to see him avoid one either. He just has to not get carried away with the excitement of the moment and remember how big he is to be effective. He can only lose by losing his footing.  got to watch the clever smaller guys who will try to get in close and get him off balance. It's a skill like any other.
