Zamboni Posted July 23, 2022 Report Posted July 23, 2022 Lately this smells of …. “I don’t follow prospects to the depth like you do, so stop talking about prospects because it bores me, and any ranking or discussion I’m just gonna choose to not believe anyway”. (now let’s see how many posters I can get to jump on my wagon with me). 😂 Anyhooooo …looking at it in general, I think we have a terrific pool of prospects. I hope a few of them develop into very impactful NHLer’s. Quote

Our (or at least mine) point was that we weren’t sure how excited we should be (my thought was not at all) about our prospect pool being ranked high, as it has been ranked high in the past,… and we still sucked this year. I keep being told “it’s different this time”. (I’ve been told that before, as well.) I have no problem with the rankings as I really don’t care. I have too much to do other than pay a lick of attention to hundreds of kids playing around the globe, and like I said, I’m just not sure how much it matters. That’s fine. I guess I’ll just have to take youse guyses wordses for it. And I truly hope you are right. I remain cautiously optimistic. Edited July 23, 2022 by SwampD 2 Quote

Holtz, Cooley and Jiricek ahead of JJP is the same idea, draft position seems to be the main factor. Levi stays under the radar, hope he keeps improving. Quote

I know the discussion primarily relates to the ranking of prospects but if you include the young players already on the roster to this discussion (such as Dahlin, Cozens, Mitts, Joki, Tage, Samuelsson, Asplund, Bryson and stretching the age boundaries to include Tuch) you have in place a roster that has plenty of internal growth and upside. If the last third of the previous season was a harbinger of a maturing roster and if added to the prospects that you listed that would be moving up to the NHL roster, then most of us should be optimistic about the near future. The issue then becomes how long will it take for this expanded group to gel? (Of course I'm putting aside the goaltending issue for this discussion.) Quote

Think it was just Sabre #'e that was held against Peterka. He was 1 of 3 honorable mentions. The other 2 were Kulich & Östlund. And, as said above, getting shutdown in the playoffs was held against Quinn. Looking forward to where Levi falls in tomorrow's goalie rankings. Has to be close to #1 if not #1. Only 10 goalies will be ranked. Sabres could have 2 of the 10 (though may never get the 2nd one signed). 1 Quote

He seems to value newer draftees over developing prospects, CHL 19 years old who beat up over lesser competition vs AHL 19 years olds who excel despite playing against men. He also seems to value how a player ranked on his board in his draft year over actual development. He seems to focus on his view of the players upside vs likelihood of reach the NHL or succeeding in the NHL. Otherwise these is no justification for having Savoie as high as 9th. I think the NHL Network list is a much more honest list. That said his list has 4 Sabres plus another 3 in his honorable mentions. This is the most of any team in both categories and in total. As to JJP and Quinn he is punishing them for playing on a strong offensive team. He said as much when I questioned him on how he ranked Reichel and Holloway over JJP. Quote

Lots of justification to put Savoie in the top 10. No justification to rank Kemell over Quinn. There's other names too I could add but that in particular stands out. Kemell has no skill or ability that Quinn isn't better at. Quote
