cpabob Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Link I love Garth's blog and this is his best yet. Go Sabres!!
cgang Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 "A couple of thousand of you Flyer fans showed your fat, hairy, cellulite-riddled in public at the FU Center last night. And that`s just the Women in attendance! " Classic!

cpabob Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 Yeah. Ek responded to Garth defending the Philly fans and then a little later they were both gone.

Well I can't post Garth's blog since it's been removed, but I can post Eklund's hor$e$hit reply. I'd sure like to see what caused Ek's "off the charts" stupidity comment. However, I must say there was a whole bunch of stupidity in Ek's blog itself. No one was cheering in Buffalo because Umberger was down. They were cheering initially because of the hard check. Then they were cheering the scrum that ensued. When Umberber was helped off the ice, no one booed him! They gave him a respectful cheer and clap. Now I don't doubt that regarding the Dumont incident in Philly that "not all the fans were cheering his injury." A majority probably were not. However, I wouldn't characterize it as "Very few were...". A very vocal minority were. The booing was quite audible on the TV the whole time Dumont was down and even when they were helping him off the ice. So I could estimate that at least 5-10% were. That was totally classless. Anyhow, read Ek's post below. Also, I'm very disappointed that Eklund is sensoring his website. ======================================== Defending the Caveman I am responding to Garth's Blog below. The Philadelphia sports fans thing is ridiculously overblown. It is "off the charts" stupidity. First off all the incidents (overblown as they have become) happened at Eagle's games.. Someone in Buffalo should be able to relate. When I was in Buffalo many locals said to me that they'd loved to go to the HSBC, but you'd never take your kids to a Bill's game. Flyers fans are not Eagles fans. They aren't. I have been in the Spectrum and new building for some very emotional moments. You are right that the Umberger hit was misrepresented and many of the Flyers fans don't know that. It was played over and over again in the pressbox, but only once on the ice...It was however replayed while Umberger was still out for the count. A decision that I heard they regretted in Buffalo. The Flyers have given standing ovations to Mario Lemieux and intense moments of silence for some of the players that we have lost. I was also present soon after 9-11 for a preseason game vs. The Rangers where the fans wouldn't let the players play because an address by President Bush was on the Big Screen during the intermission. The fans were silent and the players sat on their bench and respectfully waited until the President had finished. Then players from both teams then shook hands and the game was never finished. It was as intense a moment as I have witnessed at a game. The Flyers fans didn't carry on or boo...they applauded the decision, and we all respectfully went home. The reaction to Dumont was wrong, but not all the fans were cheering his injury. Very few were...and had the Umberger truth been known none would have. I have seen plenty of players, more hated than JP, lay on the ice and get cheered when they got up or were helped off...Flyers fans are not Eagles fans. And Eagles fans aren't as bad as they are steryotyped to be either... Was the Gauthier spear an intentional shot? I guess we'll never know for sure, but Dennis has admitted when he cheap shotted players in the past, and he wasn't even looking at JP. He swears it was an accident and he felt bad about the hit. Garth, there was an equal amount of people chearing when Umberger was down in Buffalo, as there were when Dumont was down. And Lou Nolan, our PA Announcer actually told those fans that cheared to show some class.

Unfortunately I didn't save the Garth post, so I am going from memory here. Basically, the guy teed off on Gauthier and he teed off on the Filadelphia sports fan in general. He pretty much said both were neanderthals and deserved each other. It was a pretty long article and didn't hold many punches. I do take exception with at least 1 thing that Eklund said. THE UMBERGER HIT WAS NOT SHOWN ON THE JUMBOTRON WHILE HE WAS LYING ON THE ICE. To state otherwise is, at best, misinformed or, at worst, an outright lie. Which, (I am assuming this is the same Eklund of "non-reliable hockey rumors are us Eklund") is pretty much par for the course. I was interested though, in reading the Eklund response, to learn that he is a Phlyers fan. Figures.
