Rabbit151 Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I know you will all expect me to say Miller. But no. Miller was alright, he really couldn't be faulted on 2 of those goals. I will say this, the biggest part of goaltending is when the saves are made. Giving up that terrible short-handed, short-side goal was a real momentum changer. What needs to change? Not much really. Afinogenov needs to show up. I know he got a couple of assists, but he has clearly not been himself out there. The biggest thing that needs to change are careless turn-overs. The Sabres get too cute when they read all this press about how great they are. The young guys are especially bad. Jochen Hecht hasn't showed up yet either. I liked seeing Gaustad take a shift or two with Briere. he is so under-rated for what he brings to the team. He's an old-school, cycle specialist. I am amazed at how good he is at keeping posession of the puck down-low. I saw someone else say a loss is good for them. Adversity, they need to learn how to win with it in the play-offs. I agree. New Jersey in the next round will have tons of adversity for the Sabres.
DWarner Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I agree with a lot of that. Miller seemed a little shakey at the start, but played pretty great inthe 2nd and 3rd. The Ghost Dad line was buzzing all night. They need to keep it up and pound some home. We NEED at least 1 PP goal too (it helps to put shots on net boys). It sure will be abother exciting game!! Time to go buy a DVD recorder since I have to miss this one too...
PTS Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 The bottom line is we played horrible while the Flyers played their best game of the series, yet we still should have won that game. Our powerplay needed to show up just once last night and we could be talking sweep today. We just didn't skate and they got two lucky bounces. I'd say our effort last night was about 70% and they need 80% to win. I also agree on Max, he could have tied the game in the final minutes but he got scared to make the play in front of the net. I don't know where his head is right now. I'm nervous for tomorrow because if we don't play like we should, we can easily lose again. Hopefully Lindy rallies the troops and brings them to us up 3-1 on Sunday.
BuffalOhio Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Jochen Hecht hasn't showed up yet either. So who was it then, who made the pass to Briere for the OT game winner on Saturday? Must've been someone else if Hecht hasn't shown up yet.
MJhockey Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Replace Vanek with Pyatt or Peters or the water boy or RJ or Jim Lorentz.

New Jersey in the next round will have tons of adversity for the Sabres. Miller needed to stop the first goal. Other than that I thought he played well. I think it's a little premature to say that we are getting Jersey in the next round. I wouldn't count Carolina out of it just yet...which means we get NJ or Ottawa. Either way, we have to be on top of our game.
Kristian Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Replace Vanek with Pyatt or Peters or the water boy or RJ or Jim Lorentz. Have to agree, Vanek has been a huge disappointment since the olympic break. Looks like he may suffer from a case of "Pre-Concussion Tim Connolly", so hopefully he'll bounce back at some point. Just hope it won't take a injury that keeps him out for a season. As much as I dislike Pyatt, at least he's shown a pretty good work ethic this year. Vanek, at the moment, needs splinters in his backside.
X. Benedict Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 A powerplay that is clicking along at 20%. That's it. That's the difference.
eliwhitneyradio Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Hecht seemed to be one of our best players on the ice last night. In terms of bringing the puck into the zone and generating some offensive energy, anyway.
Knightrider Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 The bottom line is we played horrible while the Flyers played their best game of the series, yet we still should have won that game. Exactly. We didn't play our A game. Maybe because of Philly's play we didn't, but I suspect it not. They were very lucky. That's why it's a seven game series. (Yes, I know better, but let me be idealistic, OK?) I thought the matchup of Brierre, Hecht and Dumont on the Foresberg line was to their advantage though... I agree Hecht still looked ok in their zone, but Brierre seemed to vanish at times, and they certainly couldn't slow down Foresberg...
hopeleslyobvious Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 A powerplay that is clicking along at 20%. That's it. That's the difference. Agreed. Actually a powerplay at slightly under 15% (1 for 7) would have done it.
Rabbit151 Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 Even though Hecht got the OT assist, I still think he hasn't shown up. He's a heck of a gritty, smart player when on top of his game, a difference maker every shift. I just haven't seen it yet. I think Kalinin has been better. I think Kotalik has been better, he's thrown a few good checks out there. He's a big boy. Derek Roy had some real brain cramps out there, but he also had some outstanding shifts. The Sabres will be fine if they stop with the careless, lazy turn-overs. That one pp they had, I think in the 3rd, I swear they made the Philly fore-checker look like Bob Gainey. He intercepted every pass, but they were all lazy, telegraphed passes.
Rock DJ Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Derek Roy had some real brain cramps out there, but he also had some outstanding shifts. The Sabres will be fine if they stop with the careless, lazy turn-overs. That one pp they had, I think in the 3rd, I swear they made the Philly fore-checker look like Bob Gainey. He intercepted every pass, but they were all lazy, telegraphed passes. Roy played admirably against Forsberg for several shifts over the past couple games. BRIERE was non-existant in game 3, except for his 4 turnovers. The PP didn't work because no one stayed in front of the net, and no one shot from the point. Eshe kicks out rebounds on low shots and the Sabres didn't take any one timers when they had PLENTY of opportunites to do so. Instead the point men held the puck to try to pass down low. And the forwards stayed on the perimeter waiting for those passes. More low point shot one-timers with someone battling in front and Eshe gives up rebound opportunities left and right. Philly is playing a VERY tight box. We can exploit that. I'm sure the players were told to do just that, but have it stuck in their heads to get that down low shot.
