And overtook the Anaheim Jersey as the most popular in the league.  That was why I don't think it was an accident that the colours of the jerseys for the antagonists in the third Mighty Ducks movie were the same as these.

I didn't mind the Goathead. They definitely modeled the color scheme after Adelphia Cable 100%. But it was way better than the BuffASlug, I'm sure we can all agree.

The color change and rebrand was done under the Knox ownership and stewardship, the fact that the next owners company used those colors was coincidence.

I agree that the logical connection between the new colors and Adelphia is dubious, but the idea is based on the fact that Rigas had invested 15 million dollars in the Sabres in 1994. And his sports network secured the rights to games around the same time. He wouldn't assume operational control until 1998 and didn't officially own the team until 2000.
