SDS Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 i’m really happy to report this is false. My apologies. This woman has a blue checkmark and it was a re-tweeted by Bob McKenzie, I think. 2 Quote
SwampD Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 We were looking at his stats yesterday. He averaged 57.3 goals a season for his career. Goals! WTF?! 1 Quote
woods-racer Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 He got diagnosed with lung cancer this past October. He's had a storied yet pain full career and life. I never new he was forced to retire at age 30 because of his knee and back. He scored a lot in a short time frame. Quote
mphs mike Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 Godspeed to Mike and the Bossy family. 1 1 Quote

Carmel Corn Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 He was truly a SNIPER out there...others have found ways to score more goals, but he was such a dangerous shooter! Quote
nfreeman Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 After Gretzky, Bossy was the best goalscorer I've ever seen. God bless him and his family. 2 Quote
Marvin Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 Just saw an announcement on hfboards that he passed away. Aside: like SDS, the founders of hfboards are expatriate Buffalonians and are still Sabres fans. Quote

LabattBlue Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 Very sad. Great player who was part of a great line that won 4 consecutive cups… Gillies-Trottier-Bossy Quote

French Collection Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 If health had not forced him out of hockey so early he could have scored 700+ goals. He was the Ovechkin of that era but he had many ways to score. He was a gentlemanly player but put up with a lot of abuse in the high danger scoring areas. That is what probably shortened his career. SDS Posted April 4, 2022 Author Report Posted April 4, 2022 Mike’s first NHL goal was against the Sabres. Mike just skates through the Calgary dude and buries another goal. Quote
SDS Posted April 4, 2022 Author Report Posted April 4, 2022 Mike’s letter to his 14 year old self. It’s absolutely an amazing read. 😢 3 Quote

I got into the sport during the height of the Islander dynasty and to me he was the best player on the ice. That’s why I chose 22 for my beer league. I know he doesn’t fit the bill for other peoples visions of an ideal hockey player, but for me, he was just a guy who went out there and scored goals like nobody’s business with a great name. This is just awful. Maybe the best goalscorer ever. Lethal shot. I remember being at the Aud for his for ever career goal. Quote

Goaltending back then. Well that was something else entirely. Ric was a very good player. Bossy was a Hall of Fame player. The Sabres knew Bossy was the BPA but the felt like they needed a two way player more than another scorer at the time. 1 Quote

It was actually a knee problem that started it. Read his letter to his younger self I posted earlier. He hurt his knee when he was younger and it never healed properly. He implied that overtime that led to his back problems. 1 Quote

Yet, everything has had to be confirmed through traditional routes before it could be confirmed anyway. You don’t find out anything any quicker with any certainty than if there was no Twitter. Most of the time it just adds noise. As a pastime to see some funny or interesting stuff, sure. But as a source of news, meh. Just my opinion, of course. 1 Quote

I really don’t see how someone comes to that conclusion. If Elliot Friedman calls Kyle Okposo and Kyle says he is retiring at the end of the season and then Elliott immediately reports that on Twitter. How does that remotely relate to what you’re saying? Serious people use that platform all the time to alert people of current news. You’re disregarding the thousands to millions of tweets from serious people that are true, to focus on the relatively few that turn out to be false. 1 Quote
