PromoTheRobot Posted March 22, 2022 Report Posted March 22, 2022 (edited) Pretty much every sports site publishes weekly power rankings that bear a remarkable resemblance to the league standings that week. But shouldn't a power ranking tell you what team is hot, or not, that week alone? So let's put our minds together and create a SabreSpace Power Rank. The difference is only the last 10 games played will be considered. That means teams like Montreal or Arizona might be in the Top 10 one week while the Vegas Golden Knights could be in the bottom 10, all based on their last 10 games played. And where can we easily access those numbers? My question is what metrics should be used? Ideally this ranking will be strictly metric-based. No opinions. No popularity contest. Obviously wins, goals scored, goals against are the obvious ones. What are some other ones you'd include? Edited March 22, 2022 by PromoTheRobot Quote
Doohicksie Posted March 22, 2022 Report Posted March 22, 2022 Whether or not there is a bison on the crest. But seriously: I would also like to see the delta compared to the previous 10 games factored in, kind of a trending direction, if you will. 1 Quote

Seems like #fancystats will have something that takes in quality of competition (over the competition's Last 10 adjusted for competition, not season), and record already. For example, as awesome as the Toronto, VGK, and Vancouver wins are, those teams seem to be slumping and should be rated lower than a win over a team that's actually playing well. Quote
Zamboni Posted March 22, 2022 Report Posted March 22, 2022 I rank Power rather high in the prospect list. Quote
