I just read that there's a top NFL quarterback prospect with a surprisingly small throwing hand. (Hand is measured from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the pinkie finger on an outstretched hand.) He's at about 8.5 inches.

Despite thinking I have small hands and despite always having had trouble throwing a football, I was surprised to measure my right hand at 9 inches, in the ballpark of many successful QBs over the years.

Joshy? Ten, of course! What else?! What else?!

On a more serious note, if your thumb to pinky span is really close to 9 or 10 inches (ideally), then it is a great measuring tool you always have with you. Ever since I learned this trick in the 90s, I have probably estimated the dimensions of various items thousands of times. It is super handy if you don’t have a tape measure nearby. Put two hands together and you may have 18 inches in one measurement. Do that twice and you know if something is 36 inches…
