carpandean Posted January 28, 2022 Report Posted January 28, 2022 I just looked at this thread and thought, "wait, aren't they playing on Friday?" Yeah, it's been one of those weeks. 1 1 Quote
Norcal Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 Lets GO Boys!!!!! Get this W!!!! 1 Quote
Taro T Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 With all the great chances the Amerks had, Mersch ties it at 1 on a poor angle shot off the goalie's stick. Peterka had shot wide on a breakaway. Weisback did likewise on 4v4 & then Peterka hit a post on a 2v2 rush as the 4v4 expired all to no avail. Then Mersch throws junk to the net that strikes gold. Norcal Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 That sequence before the goal from JJ was something sorely lacking from the Sabres and a really impressive part of his game imo. Backchecks, steals(hooks?), retrieves and counters resulting in a drive into the offensive zone and a crazy looking shot the goalie was forced to save with a man crashing the front of the net. I really hope he continues his style of play in the league because he will bring the fans out of their seats nightly. 1 Quote
Taro T Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 Just now, Norcal said: That sequence before the goal from JJ was something sorely lacking from the Sabres and a really impressive part of his game imo. I really hope he continues his style of play in the league because he will bring the fans out of their seats nightly. If he keeps skating like his hair's on fire, he'll be entertaining next season. But he still needs to be better overall in his own end. Could see him starting out next year in the A to work further on that part of his game. And just now saw how poorly Laaksonen played the Crunch goal to open the scoring. He really has a ways to go to get to the show. 1 Quote
Taro T Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 Interestingly, Peterka getting some PK time. Quote
Taro T Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 And the Amerks get a freebie PP w/ 2:01 to go. Let's see what they can do w/ it. Quote
Norcal Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 2nd ranked PP couldn't get it done....until....with 18 seconds left in the PP they finally get set up in the zone and boom...the powerhouse Macinnis gets it done with 6.4 left. Nice! 1 Quote
Taro T Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 They score w/ 6.4 on the clock. MacInnes from the slot & it trickles through. The PP was AWFUL the 1st 100 seconds. 2-1 W for the good guys. Quote
Taro T Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 Per Duff, Amerks 1st win this season scoring fewer than 4 goals. And it took the gift puck over the glass call to get the chance for the winner. Quote

Except for that Charlotte game right when the Sabres got Subban, he's played very well. (Guess there was 1 other not so good game too. Didn't see that one.) Wondering if his mind was thinking about how that was likely going to be his last game as Dell was soon to come back down & the emotion of the situation just caused everything to snowball. Quote
Ogre Posted January 29, 2022 Report Posted January 29, 2022 There was a small crew of young adults behind us tonight. Very vocal. Hootin’, hollerin’ and having a good time. One of them kept saying “I love hockey” a lot. Probably ten times. The Amerks intern finally acknowledged them and tossed some Amerks slap bracelets up toward them. We helped them fish them out from under the seats and they told us that the one kid was at his first hockey game. “He’s from Italy!”. Guess I know who kept fawning over hockey. It’s extra special that they won. Pretty entertaining first game. 4 1 Quote
