Why’d the whistle blow?

Our announcing team useless for context or an explanation.

Gambrell was down and in distress. Once the goalie made the save on the breakaway, the ref blew for the injury. Didn't need to, but they must've thought he was in a serious condition.  They gave the breakaway, then treated the save like a hasty OTT possession.

Got screwed again by the refs...no way the whistle should have been blown.  Nice body check by Dahlin in the defensive zone....completely clean hit.

Agreed.  The ref has to wait until there isn't a scoring chance.  The Otters did not have control of the puck.

Injured Ottawa player.  But it usually should have only been blown when Ottawa recovers the puck, which they didn't do before Skinner netted it.  Instead, the refs blew the whistle on the initial save.

Ah - okay. So not a change of possession, but a moment of non-possession. Tough luck for the Sabres.
