You may need to do some barlowering yourself.

Anyone got any deets on his background?  The tweets from Evolving Wild upthread make it sound like he's been around for a while, but "data engineer" sounds like a junior position.

I wonder how this all will play out. Either way this is a long term rebuild that will take years.

Two years out from being a legitimate playoff team if the young developmental players hit at a reasonable rate and they add goaltending. RD would help, too. It's been a decade of despair, but there's enough real potential for hope. Unless you enjoy pessimism, of course. Some folks are like that.

The Houston Rockets are the 3rd worst team in the NBA.  I understand it's mainly because of Harden's departure but maybe the analytics will bear fruit with all those 1st round picks.

I am not entirely convinced convinced that analytics is a big difference maker in assembling a winning team, but hey I'll support any advantage they try to use.  It beats the days of innovating with video scouting.

Take a look at Carolina's drafting.

Also keeping mind there is a difference between having analytics and using analytics... looking at you Seattle.

What in blazes is a *data engineer*?

It sounds like a made up title, or that they engineer (as in make up) the data they spit out.

Dare I say ... garbage in - garbage out?

I guess this is what we can expect from a guy who still uses a pencil and an eraser 😃😃 on the job

There's management and there are number crunchers.  Sounds like he's a number cruncher.  The title engineer doesn't mean he's "junior", it means he's a technical expert.

Not sure why you think that.  The thrust of analytics is to identify and obtain top talent that other teams miss (and identify which current players need to go away).  This certainly won't slow the build down and will probably make it faster.  It will certainly improve build quality.

Well it certainly looks like he wants to play for the Sabres.

This topic is OLD. A NEW topic should be started unless there is a VERY SPECIFIC REASON to revive this one.
