Norcal Posted December 18, 2021 Report Posted December 18, 2021 5 of a possible 6 points on the trip. Subban played much better tonight. Let's hope he lands somewhere in the middle of the two starts, most nights it should be enough. Good effort from the boys. 1 Quote

Flashsabre Posted December 18, 2021 Report Posted December 18, 2021 That was a hell of a character point there. This team is everything Krueger tried to tell us his team was but could never get them to be. Hats off to Subban, hell of a game. Fitz was inspired tonight, hope he gets a long look. Dahlin is starting to consistently impact games. Don’t know how long Mitts is out for but him and Tuch anchoring another line would be very nice in the 2nd half. 2 1 Quote
Pimlach Posted December 18, 2021 Report Posted December 18, 2021 I was happy with the tie, until we tied it. Then I wanted the 2nd point. I just can’t stand Pittsburgh. This team got outshot and probably beat in all the fancy stats too. But they played hard to the end and it is more than a moral victory. I think they are showing some balls finally. 3 Quote
woods-racer Posted December 18, 2021 Report Posted December 18, 2021 I didn't read all the pages of this thread.... So incase it wasn't said.. Casey's Mom has it going on... I'm in love with Casey's play. 2 1 Quote

Unless the point guy is going to attack, teams just have to watch us pass and stay in the lane. Why was Eakin even out there? Because back to back games. I could be wrong, but I think that the bolded is incorrect. Eakin has played in other OT games this season, Krueger and it seems Granato as well likes to have him out for a better chance on the face offs in OT. Kinda backfired here though. Quote

Credit to the guys for not giving up and getting to OT. Actually only the first period. We hung with them the next two, and cave back from two down. Considering I thought we'd get run over tonight, I'll take this gladly. 6 points out right now. Edited December 18, 2021 by PromoTheRobot 2 Quote

Not that your are saying this but, if they are keeping eakin in because he wins faceoffs... Holy crap do they need a strategy update. His faceoffs% is only 57 Edited December 18, 2021 by LGR4GM Quote

Eakin is out there because he’s their best face off guy. So if he wins the draw he goes off for a more skilled player. They really need one of their top centers to get better on face offs. 1 Quote
SwampD Posted December 18, 2021 Report Posted December 18, 2021 (edited) Everyone is on Eakin here, but that really wasn’t the most difficult shot to stop. Kinda a soft goal by Subban. Edited December 18, 2021 by SwampD Quote
HumanSlinky39 Posted December 18, 2021 Report Posted December 18, 2021 Just rewatched the OT…dammit, Eakin. Say Uncle. 1 Quote
Thorner Posted December 18, 2021 Report Posted December 18, 2021 Back to back on road w/a time zone change, 3rd match in 4 eves, with the backup goalie. Dahlin scored. Loser point becomes winner point. Cue up the Russell Crowe gif 1 Quote

Popular Post PerreaultForever Posted December 18, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted December 18, 2021 Late here as I recorded this one, and it doesn't matter to me that we lost. Would have been nice to win of course but what really matters to me here is that once again we looked like a real hockey team. This may seem like a meaningless sentence, but it's not. We haven't resembled one in years. We actually pushed back and answered the bell. Amazing! Fitzgerald? Wow. Didn't see that coming. Guy is already better than Hagg and Butcher and deserves a longer look. Pity he couldn't win the game with a storybook Gordie Howe hat trick but heck of a debut. Sure he lost the fight, but he stepped up. WE PLAYED LIKE A TEAM. I am very surprised and very encouraged. Lots left to fix, but the lines look more balanced as a team and there's continuity, and players are developing and using their skills, so many positives. Hayden's best game as a Sabre, probably not noticed by many, but he was effective in his role. Dahlin showing confidence and seems calmer. Have to see if it holds up to the tight checking physical teams but still, big positives for the moment. Two things I hated in this game. The refs, who I think are Crosby fans, and listening to the Pittsburgh announcers rave about E-Rod. Dude has 10 goals wtf? I guess you can put anybody on Crosby's wing and they will have career years. (probably not Taylor Hall, but anybody else ) 8 2 Quote

Cozens and Thompson both have to get a lot better at draws. (not that face offs matter of course :0) Quote

First half is uncomfortable and unsure Dahlin learning to be confident and trust his skill again. Second half is deployment of that skill and minimizing the mistakes (he takes risks so some of them wont work). The Pitt announcers were trash and I moved over to the home feed after the first period. 1 Quote
matter2003 Posted December 18, 2021 Report Posted December 18, 2021 (edited) 5 out of 6 points on the road trip is huge. Especially picking up a point with someone other than UPL in net and having them actually play well. Edited December 18, 2021 by matter2003 4 Quote
