Stoner Posted December 11, 2021 Report Posted December 11, 2021 (edited) I'll take my own advice and act like a winning fan. Despite this horrendous streak after a good start, the Sabres are only 10 points out of a playoff spot just before Christmas. It looks bleak, but it's been done before. The 10 can't get too much worse though (have you seen Bo Derek lately? Yikes). It starts with tonight. Maybe the 10 can become an 8. I'll keep updating the total. Baby steps. kas23 Posted December 11, 2021 Report Posted December 11, 2021 I thought this was going to be a 10 points out of last place thread. Maybe in another month or 2. 2 Quote
Scottysabres Posted December 11, 2021 Report Posted December 11, 2021 10 points? That's it? Wow, and here I thought this season was over.... But, what your saying? There's a chance? I like your optimism PA, It's contagious, if you cough up the puck at the blue line on the power play and stay 6 ft wide of the net... 😉 1 Quote

SwampD Posted December 12, 2021 Report Posted December 12, 2021 So, are we only nine points out now? Quote

Sabres Fan in NS Posted December 12, 2021 Report Posted December 12, 2021 This is not impossible at this point. There are the top 3 in each division that are pretty far ahead and then the rest are all bunched up within a 10 point range. If the Sabres win a few in a row here they will be right back in the thick of it for a wildcard. Every single point counts big time now. UPL deserved much better last night. He should stay up at this point. Quote

However, he is very unlikely to continue this, as it would be his best save percentage and gaa in any league, any season unless you count 1 game in the AHL in 2018-2019, where he had a .941, and the 2018-2019 wjc, where he had a .180 gaa through 6 games. Of course, he can't sustain this level of play for very long. I would play him every game until he cools down. He gives the Sabres the best chance to win right now. 1 Quote
Stoner Posted December 14, 2021 Author Report Posted December 14, 2021 Still 10. It's not getting worse! And would get better tonight if the Bruins lose to the Knights and the Sabres beat the Jets. (Wings and Jackets are nine points up and play the Islanders and Canucks tonight, respectively.) Cocaine's a helluva drug. 1 Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted December 14, 2021 Report Posted December 14, 2021 I hear that tonight is going to be the start of a 4 (at least) game winning streak. 1 1 Quote

matter2003 Posted December 15, 2021 Report Posted December 15, 2021 If we had decent goaltending for those games they were brutal, we would probably only be 3 or 4 points out. 1 Quote
Stoner Posted December 16, 2021 Author Report Posted December 16, 2021 Still 9 out. Tonight's pertinent action: Bruins at Isles Wings at Canes Blue Jackets at Oilers Anybody feeling 7? 2 Quote
MattPie Posted December 16, 2021 Report Posted December 16, 2021 (edited) 9 points equates to a 11-12 game winning streak, or 11-12 games above average for the rest of the season. How, you ask? To be on playoff pace, you need to capture 1.2 points per game (give or take a few 0.01s depending on the year). Each win is 0.8 points above that number. This isn't insurmountable, but to hit 0.600 points per game (which Boston and Pittsburgh are pacing at right now), the Sabres need 1.37 points per game. Over a full season, that paces 112 points meaning the Sabres need to be one of the top two or three teams in hockey for the next five months. Edited December 16, 2021 by MattPie 1 Quote
