Remember the reason for that not being allowed is they don't want the scrums around the net with loose pucks to turn into a kicking contest, where players (goalies and others) are often on the ice...with shark skate blades flying around in a kicking motion.

A re-direct by a skate I can see counting, but I wouldn't want things to turn into a soccer match with loose pucks around the net.
