Expand In light of the press conference, I think the refusal of salary retention is extremely interesting. Adams approached this as keeping his long-term options open. Retaining salary only hinders you if you become a team willing to go to the cap. If you read between the lines this fits good news for future salary expenditures. 8 1 1 Quote

The benefits of the picks and the cap space won’t become clear for a while. Still waiting for Adams to take advantage of the space. IMO, the addition of Krebs vaults our current prospect list to among the best in the league. We have 3 1sts this year and 3 2nds next year. Let’s hope the Adams team does a better job with all that capital than Tim Murray did. 4 1 Quote

The community did not accept Jack like they accepted Briere or Lafo taine or Hasek, etc. it is what it is. Expand The community accepted Eichel exactly like they did Hasek. There was a significant component of the fan base that truly disliked Hasek for the sins of "chasing" Ted Nolan out of town and "quitting" on the team by not battling through a particular leg injury. Though he battled through other injuries & though it was Larry Quinn that actually was the driver of the single year contract extension offer, they still didn't like him. Blamed him for Barnaby getting traded away, too. There is a not insignificant component of the fan base that never fully bought in on Eichel either. The animosity towards both never made sense to this kid. Still doesn't. But the team has moved on & now so shall we. 4 Quote

LabattBlue Posted November 4, 2021 Report Posted November 4, 2021 You know why all the current players are now happy? There is no longer a broken toilet in the locker room. Thank you. I will be here all day for your enjoyment. Quote
DarthEbriate Posted November 4, 2021 Report Posted November 4, 2021 I wanted to see what a healthy Eichwalker could do in Granato's non-defensive-shell system. Plus, a top-15 center in the league really solidifies the rest of this lineup. But because that's an alternate reality.... Overall I like it. Tuch is a really solid player and plays an aggressive game plus the size. He'll kick Hinostroza to the bottom 6 where he belongs. Krebs doesn't shy from contact and has vision. If we have three legit 2-centers (Cozens, Mitts, Krebs), then give me that vs. a single star that all offense must channel through. Think Peca, Barnes, Brown. One thing this trade is not: it's not an aged/past prime/overpaid Berglund and an overpaid 4th line winger (Sobotka) and a really long-term project (Thompson). No salary retention. No cash dumps. Win, win. If you're an opposing GM, you don't give up a Zegras/Byfield type + to get an injury-risk Eichel. Just like we went out and got ROR to complement Eichel. You build around that top-level center prospect with the established star (Matthews/Tavares). That Krebs is just below those stud-level young centers (potentially) is gravy for the Sabres. Remember, if Vegas doesn't win a Cup because they're overpriced and the goaltending fails, or if Eichel continues to battle injuries (he has every season, even his best COVID-shorted season he disappeared the last 8 games with injury) and deteriorates before age 28 and then is just a good but not elite player... that GM loses their job over this trade. 1 Quote

The only time they've EVER seemed to cheap out were when O'Reilly was traded & personally believe that was personal to them (they didn't want to pay THAT guy any more than they'd already paid him & that bit us all in the bippy) & when they made significant cuts to the back office & front office when COVID hit. Suppose they've cheaped out on GM hires, but at least 2 of those were recommended by people they trusted and this last 1 was based on their own 1st hand interactions with him. But would be mildly surprised if a majority of that cap space gets spent on FAs. Expect they've got a bunch of it penciled in on raises for guys that are currently here. 2 Quote
