While I think zone starts are interesting, they tend to be overrated on the internet.

They have to have some influence, but I'd be curious to see how they relate to actual zone time. 5%? 30%? %50?

I stand corrected. Vinnie stays, Bjork and Hayden gone.

Remains to be seen who actually comes out of the lineup, but that seems to be the most deserving pair.

Dylan played only 10 minutes last night.  Did he get hurt or was he benched for lousy play?

The 3rd Duck goal went in off his shin.  Didn't see much of his line after that.

“You don’t play or execute well but you find a way to get two points, you can’t diminish that,” Granato said. “And I won’t.”

Nice comment from DG, but you know he can't be happy with the sloppy play.

Pretty sure that's the way a guy that won't speak bad of HIS guys speaks bad of his guys.

I must have missed this memo.

Mostly just what I have surmised from reading countless articles like this over the course of the offseason:

Whether it's "the" face or "a" face (with 1 or 2 others) - there can be no doubting the substantial place Cozens has carved out within this franchise right now re: importance

Cozens needs a deep breath. He is pushing too much and his decision making is not fast enough. Reminds me of Quinn in the AHL last year where you see glimpses of the actual skill but it gets buried under the inability to make the simple quick plays and reads needed to succeed.

looking back, shame Cozens didnt play in the AHl last season.

Yeah. He had a featured role in that RJ video, jogging over the Michigan Street bridge. There was/is an intent in that regard, for sure.

Definitely. I could have been more clear as well, I capitalized Face in my post in the hopes it would be taken less literally, and taken instead as a term synonymous with "Core". The "Face" of the sabres was just my attempt at referring to the new core/focus - it doesn't have to be one player. Indeed, would never claim someone like Dahlin isn't also the Face of the team, now.

Im not sure his line played at all in the 3rd period.

The 3rd Duck goal went in off of Cozens.  He'd come on for R2 Rou2 who changed on the fly.

The line had taken at least 1 shift earlier in the period.  Not sure about ice time after that.

They definitely played in the 3rd.

You did make the Kings Broadcast a few years ago

I think that was the jumbotron game too.  And it seemed like half of Southbay was in attendance, because I couldn't go to a bar without being recognized for about a year after that.  It got to be comical how frequently randos would walk up to me and ask me about it, so much so that my friends would just shake their heads and laugh every time it happened.  Even a local Kings fan, who incidentally happened to be a little person, bought me a beer about a month after that simply because he liked the cut of my jib on the 'tron; super nice guy.  I was the *****in' California Sabres mascot for a while.

Not the only time I've been on the broadcast though.  And not the only team I've been regularly featured on the jumbotron for.  Good times.

I was consistently on the broadcast last night too, but to my knowledge, it was only the back of my head.  Sunday... might be different.

But, but, but, so many say Olofsson can only score goals, and can only do that on the PP.  How could that be that he set that tap in up?

How could it be that the Sabres' goaltending has been good?

Anderson is good.  Pretty sure the gripe was that there's a real good chance he'll Pominville on us & then we're left with riding Tokarski (who forced his way onto this roster against at minimum the GM's expectation), or having him split w/ Dell who has been bad at the NHL level for a while or 1 of the 2 ECHLers.  But will be very (plaesantly) surprised if he can keep it up all season.  Especially if he has to keep performing the gymnastics he's needed to do the past 2 games.

And Tokarski is angling to get Bales a raise.  Good for him (& us) so far.  Maybe, against the odds, he's this decade's Thomas.  Would be nice to have finally gotten some "puck luck" here, but it is still a small sample size.

And would like nothing more than to see Methuselah & Toker stay at this level.  It would be an awesome story.

VO’s 5v5 Game has improved immensely under Granato

Olofs 5v5 game has always been good. I’ve been saying this in threads for awhile now.

People focused on him being a “PP Specialist” because of his shot. And he coincidentally racked up crazy PP stats

it’s not like his shot is any less deadly 5v5. Olof is a gamer. He can equally excel at 5v5.

This is the First Season that His Defensive Metrics have been in positive territory,  He’s much more effective in His Own Zone so far this season.

Previously he didn’t score a lot at 5v5, despite his shot.

11 ES goals in 88 games pre Granato

7 ES goals in 35 games under Granato.

His shot actually did seem less deadly at ES because I rarely saw him find the space to use it well when not on the PP.  I think he has done a better job of that this season.

Off on a tangent:  Asplund remarked how VO is his best friend on the team and treats everyone so well.  Could he be a dark horse for a C or at least an A down the road?

Olofsson is playing for a new contract this season too.  I wonder how this will play out with a new contract and where he falls in the mid to long term plan for the team.
