Who had Tage Thompson, two way Centre with 4 points in 6 games and a +2 in the pool?

Developing a 6’7 two way RHC out of nothing might guarantee Donny the Jack Adams Trophy.😆

I’ve never been as down on Tage as some here, but this neutral zone force thing he has going offensively and defensively has caught me completely by surprise.

Let’s be honest, for the 1st 40 minutes his was the only line that was doing anything at all offensively. Cozens was awful and Vinnie was invisible. The Zemgus line was hanging on by sheer force of will.

And fist bump for Victor Olofsson. He’s been much more than the 3rd line PP specialist some have been trying to pigeonhole him into.

That was a great effort as one of the best Sabres games I’ve seen in awhile.

Wasn’t expecting 5-1.  This could really build confidence fit the road trip.

I really hope they're able to bring this effort night-in and -out on the road trip. I'd be quite happy to see them dash the Kraken fans' dreams in person when they realize they aren't Vegas and that the "worst team in the league" outclasses them. That'd be really nice.

One other note, when TB was down going into the 3rd and needed to score at least 2 goals and pulled their goalie w 5 minutes left, they were outshot by the Sabres 13 to 11 and outscored 3-0.

the Sabres did indeed have the better of it in the 3rd, but TB had the edge in the 1st and dominated in the 2nd.

Still, the Sabres hung in there, caught a few breaks on TB failures to convert point-blank chances, got very good goaltending and scored opportunistically to seize a very nice win.

Cozens looked overwhelmed tonight.  Skinner was a bit better though than vs NJ and I thought he had a couple of chances with about 6 min left in the 2nd that changed the momentum.  I agree that TT’s line was their best.

separately, I was glad to have Hayden on the ice tonight.

This is precisely why "designing the team around Eichel" was a bad thing.  The temptation was to take each piece and try to plug it into Eichel to maximize it.  Now Olofsson is playing his position and getting time based on his merits, not how he complements Jack's.

Well well well... Amazing what good goaltending will do for a team. If the bolts had gone into the third with three goals we probably lose this game. I really hope our goaltending can keep this up through the rest of the season. Great job so far.

I really liked Donnie’s intense reAction to the icing call he thought Hedman touched.

Great message to the team that he was coaching to the buzzer and they need to play the same way.

First time I've seen him break the stone face on the bench.

It won't. But unlike if Ullmark was our #1, I feel like when the inevitable dip comes, Anderson won't lose the guys when he has a rough patch.  And Toker is exceeding expectations, essentially playing with house money.  I expect him to be more up and down, but if they believe in Anderson they'll try to lift Toker.

I was watching it with my 3 brothers and my father.  It was fun to get together and see a win.   Happy they are heading out on the road trip with a big win.

Will the league look at the hit by Stamkos on Cozens?

I know other coaches since Lindy have gotten mad and yelled, but Granato is the first one since Lindy who was on fire like Lindy used to be.... if that makes sense.

Makes perfect sense. Probably because I said out loud, “Shades of Lindy”, when he got mad tonight.

It defies all the laws of physics and development. Tage shouldn't be good at center but here we are.

Tage Thompson and Don Granato after the start of the season...

I always saw the potential, but took heat for coming out and saying he was legitimately good after Granato took over.

I loved it. Watch his post game presser, you would think they lost 5-1. Donny doesn’t play around. He is not going to accept a tank season. These guys will compete and grow each games whether they want to or not.

Good. They got outplayed for long stretches and while great they won, the coach needs to keep the big picture in mind to work on the small things that give you sustained success.

lets pump the brakes for a second, score shoulda been 3-0 Tampa after the first 10min

later in the season it'll be Vasilevsky and if they play the same the score will be reversed

What exactly are we pumping the brakes for?

No one is saying the Sabres played great or are great, they are just happy we won.

Doesnt happen enough. ***** the brakes. Why not pump the gas when we can?

3-1 since the Sabres scored first.

It wasn't. The next game is the next game.

This time. The Sabres won 5-1.

Elliott is a Sabres killer himself. 17-3 or something all time.

The Sabres slayed some dragons and they're gonna keep slayin em.

Can you imagine what he will be like if the Sabres are in a playoff spot in March (or close to it)?

Perhaps, but later in the season the Baby Sabres will have that many more games under Coach Granato.  Many will grow individually.  All will grow as a team.  And really, so what?  If they can reliably beat the bottom portion of the league, and can win a few, lose a few, with the top portion, it should be a good year.

Pysyk stood out tonight. He was excellent.

he did, but mostly I'm impressed with Hagg. idk why Philly gave up on him but at this point he's playing as good as, probably better than Risto did and we got draft picks along with him in that deal so for the moment, that stands as KA's greatest achievement.

but that's not what happened last night. I'll worry about later in the season later. Right now this is unexpected and I'm gonna enjoy it
