I can’t agree, because basically all of the guys drafted by Murray who actually made it to the AHL arrived there after Taylor was already in place.  The problem wasn’t so much that a bunch of promising prospects were stagnating in the AHL.  It was more so that there were not a lot of prospects who ended up being good enough to even sign with the Sabres and then come play in the AHL.

But how many of the young guys he traded for ended up flaming out as well?  Those guys were in the Sabres system prior to Taylor.

And IMHO those young guys should also be considered in an evaluation of Murray's talent identification.

What prospects did Murray acquire in trades?

Fasching- horrible value on that trade

Kasdorf

Larsson

Carrier

I’m sure I’m missing some.    I’m not going to take the time to sift through it all.  I doubt it helps his case as a talent evaluator much.

Said 2 posts ago that your post brought up interesting observations/ questions.

Another question of his ability was whether he was a good evaluator of scouts themselves?  If he didn't get those right, and he very likely didn't that could effect the results as well.

I have it from a number of hockey guys I know that Evander Kane is like the worst person ever. I know guys who he played with who tell me he once asked Joe Thornton to borrow a million bucks. And, pretty much everything else about him is true. He is a scumbag, who could very well have committed just about anything.

Unless you are willing to provide details and proof this is just another example of throwing poop around.

No offense to you, but this is not how we do it around here.

Tyson and TLC were both broke at the height of their primes.

It’s inconceivable to us “normal” folk how other people can blow such large amounts of millions, but apparently, it’s possible.

There is an ESPN 30 for 30 episode detailing how young NFL players blew their money, and it’s pretty interesting.

I have a friend that works for the NFL, he's seen the new player handbook. There are a lot of "real life" things in there that seem obvious to us, but if you think about an NFL draftee, they likely lived at home to college, then college with team staff or groupies to take care of a bunch of things, and now they're tossed into "real life" with a lot of money and no idea how to do normal surviving stuff. Some of the things I remember my friend talking about:

  • How to pay your bills
  • How to not get in fights at bars when someone trash talks
  • Watching out for people trying to con you

I think there is so much evidence against his character that we don’t need any more details, the jury is out on this guy.

He was literally thrown off the Winnipeg team by their players, track suit and all.  He had off ice incidents in Buffalo.  Now big problems in San Jose.

Honestly?  I hated the guy.  The whole downtown incident of like choking a woman in a bar and pushing bouncers... it all comes off very entitled.  The whole casino marker thing in Vegas, during the playoffs, not a good look.  I don't think everything she says is true, but do I believe that he'd go off partying and leave his family at home?  Yeah, i do.

Most guys I know under the age of 35 qualify for that last part.

I’ve dated women like this. You can’t always take their word as gospel, especially when they feel compelled to share their issues (whether imagined or real) with an internet full of strangers.

It seems like it would be very difficult to have that much affect on a hockey game unless you are the goaltender or Wayne Gretzky-like.

I guarantee that if he gambled he lost a lot.

And I’m the exact opposite. I don’t “know” any true men who would be so crass and inconsiderate to their family. Different circles I guess.

As far as Kane goes, I think roughly 60-70% of what comes out for public consumption is probably true. There’s most likely some embellishment, some lies, and things never known as well.

There are a lot more betting options than just win or lose.  For example, you can place a bet on whether Evander Kane will score a goal.  😱

From the Athletic:  https://theathletic.com/2762836/2021/08/11/evander-kanes-relationship-with-sharks-teammates-and-the-organization-may-be-irreparable/

Quote

Several key players informed team brass that if Kane was going to be a part of the Sharks going forward, they didn’t want to be.

...the Sharks’ displeasure with Kane stemmed from a general disrespect for team rules, including routinely being late for games and practices, not adhering to the dress code and having poor practice habits. At one point late in the season, according to a source, Kane nearly came to blows with assistant coach Rocky Thompson in a meeting...

And some stuff that seems pretty analogous to his time here:

Quote

“Guys were going into Doug’s office all year long,” according to one source, “saying Kane had to go. … All Doug would say is, ‘All teams have locker-room issues,’ which just isn’t true. Not the teams that win, anyway.”

...According to The Hockey News, one agent said: “One of my clients on the Sharks just hates him, hates the negative energy he brings into the room.

...Another league source suggested that Kane’s only real companion in the dressing room is Timo Meier, and that the situation with Kane “is also a Timo problem.” Meier, who once said early in his career he tried to model his power-forward game after Kane, was arguably the Sharks’ most disappointing player last season with 12 goals and 31 points in 54 games.

Quite a role model GMTM brought in for a young Eichel and Reino.

Imagine how much different the post-tank trajectory could've been simply not making that 1 trade but instead dumping Myers & Stafford in separate deals bringing back more future-ish pieces.  (Let's face it, they were going to be traded regardless because their being here was anathema to that season's cause.)

Lehner not hitting his skate on the post in the 2nd period of game 1 another seemingly trivial but huge other minor "what it."

I’ll die on the hill of that team needed veterans to prop up the kids.  It’s readily apparent that the wrong veterans were obtained in that trade.

Loved Kaner’s game.  Wished in came in the form of a better character to help lead the kids.

To the bolded, absolutely.  And truth be told, the current roster has that same glaring need.

And Eichel and Reino loved their buddy Kaner, and Bogo too, their other partner in crime.

Just a terrible locker room.  Murray was clueless.  No team wanted Kane.  The crap that Kane did in Winnipeg, the Dustin Buffylin fights, the track suit shower incident, and Murray brings this guy into a young team.

ROR wipes out a Tim Horton’s, Kane is Kane, Bogo, Lehner … ugh
