This is pretty embarrassing for the franchise

Remember back when we had to trade Mike Neurvith to complete the tank? Times have changed, goalies are at a premium now. Back them there was a glut on the market. Cyclical. Vancouver had to settle for Halak after trying and failing to get more out of Holtby

Its the times.

I expect goalie camp to be wide open. Best man starts. 2nd place gets you steak knives. Third place? You're fired!

We got a set of steak knives courtesy of The Newlywed Game, as a parting gift.

There is also one more team. No Seattle means at least two more goalies are on the market.

I'm staring a wonder why he signed doesn't he have enough money and he's leaving his wife and kids for the year.

Who knows maybe he'll retire during the season when we're losing

Ever heard of just playing for the love of the game?

We may be a bad team, but we are still an NHL team and once he retires its all over for him. Here he can still get some more starts and end his career on his own fruition versus retiring due to a lack of interest.

True ... but some guys need to think about family before the" love of game " somethings are more important in my eyes

Anderson has already earned $40 million dollars playing in the NHL, don't think the 750K is what moved the needle. I assume he just loves the game and wants to keep palying.

He might be here to ease UPL into the NHL. Vet presence and all that.

Exactly this. Remember when the Bills signed another Anderson as a backup/coach for Josh in his rookie year? This has to be the plan here.

Frank Gore too.  Giving UPL a goalie room with this guy could pay dividends, especially in a year that likely doesn't matter.

Yep.  They are giving the keys to UPL.  Just like Cozens, Mitts and Dahlin.  Let these young bucks run with it. They are all old enough to perform at the NHL level with Dylan still being a bit young. When did Teows hit?  Looks like 19-20, same as Cozens.  I’m willing to let it play out.  Maybe they get a vet through trade or UFA still.

My understanding is that UPL was not very good in Rochester, is that right?

Or was he just recovering from an injury and that hurt him?

He is one hope for the season not being lost yet.

Anderson can play a few games without UPL looking over his shoulder.

He wasn't, but that could have been due to injury. Aside from his first game in Buffalo, he looked pretty good.

You ever think that getting another year of NHL paychecks is him thinking of his family?

So you want UPL to play 20-30 games in Buffalo as opposed to 50-60 games in Rochester? That is what all of you think would be best.

Goalies are not like football players, forwards, or defenders. UPL has played 28 total games at the NHL and AHL level, he needs a full year of the AHL not some Frankenstein's monster version of 25 games for the Sabres. The only reason you want this is because you think UPL has a better chance than Anderson of being good. UPL has 11 professional wins at the NHL or AHL level, the fact this board or a segment of it thinks he's NHL ready is shocking.

Agree.  I would not be at all surprised if all of Anderson, Dell, Tokarski, and UPL get 5+ NHL starts.  However, based on what he has shown so far,  UPL needs to play games in the AHL.

He'd benefit from the AHL full time, but Adams is going to promote him to the NHL and see what happens. It's all part of the new philosophy he keeps spouting on about, giving the young kids as much NHL playing time as possible.

That's a complete bastardization of Adams and what he wants. Wanting the kids to get playing time is not the same as "***** it! all the young guys to the NHL!"

If they start the season with Anderson and Dell as their goalies, I’m going to be suspicious of Adams process.  UPL needs at least half a season in the A to get some valuable pro experience.
