LHD Will Butcher and 5th round pick in 2022 traded to Buffalo from NJD

This is about free assets and mostly helping to keep players that need development in Rochester, then making them beat someone out to get to Buffalo.  Let’s not hand jobs to the kids.

come on chad. i get that they could be surprisingly ok as depth pieces. they are not "fortifying" our blue line, which is a tremendous weak point now

Debatable, it comes down to which Pysyk and Butcher show up. From an analytics perspective our team got worse losing McCabe but much better with Risto’s departure. Both Butcher and Pysyk have been generally analytics darlings and if they play out well we could have a better d than most of last season.

If we do the exact same things with Pysyk/Butcher that we did wth Risto/McCabe, they'd break analytics records in terms of negative outcomes
