So far the most exciting part of the offseason is wondering which new left handed defensemen on the team will get number 8: Hagg or Butcher!?

Maybe LHD is Adams' version of Botterill's RHD. And G is Adams' answer to Botterill's C.

But Adams also trades the good centres away too.

The building of the Smurf size army continues.

Our defensive left side... so smurfified.

Dahlin 6'3"

Samuelsson 6'4"

Power 6'6"

Hagg 6'2"

Butcher 5'10"

Road cone > Butcher > Mezaros

Oh! And I need to qualify that as:

2021-22 Butcher > 2014-15 Meszaros.

Obviously, in their primes (Butcher now, Meszaros in like...2008,2010?), then Meszaros was the better player.

Fans even bitch about a free pick and player lol

It's something to see that's for sure.

Yet another good college player who hasn't been good enough to translate his college success to the NHL.

Can he play the right side? Or is there a lefty being moved in a trade?

He's basically Bryson, so our left side looks like:

Dahlin

Bryson/Butcher

Samuelsson/Hagg

Doubt it's happening or the Sabres wouldn't have bothered to do a write-up on him, but a retained Butcher has value in an Eichel swap to Minny (or maybe others)

When they could have had him for free, 1 mil retained, combined w/a 6th?

I was thinking further retention.

Nobody wants him at $3.7 million, but at $1.5 he's an asset.

Butcher is a decent addition on the back end, and we got a pick.  Use cap wisely, and this is a good addition.

In a vacuum it's a decent no-cost acquisition with a chance to rebound.

He's not filling any particular hole in the Sabres lineup though.

Caggiula, Bjork, Hinostrozza and Butcher were all college studs who've had brief flares, but basically disappointed in the NHL

Butcher has been good every year but last year.
