He had a very strong team around him and got lucky to go against a Vermeil led team. But Stabler was the real deal. Very few guys in the 70's had great #'s but that was because of the era. He led that team on the field & in the bar. They didn't elect him to the HOF during his lifetime for a reason. He wasn't great. When the league needed some press, they elected him. Quote

He was ok. He wasn't what we could consider a franchise QB and it had nothing to do with Al Davis. Plunkett won 2, ffs. Quote
thewookie1 Posted July 19, 2021 Report Posted July 19, 2021 I'd certainly check into the price of acquiring Ben Bishop. Re-sign Ullmark Then we should have hopefully 1 good goalie per game as they get alternating injures. 1 Quote

Vermeil was an excellent football coach and took a poor Eagles team and made them into a good Eagles team, just not nearly as good as several AFC teams at the time. Later, Vermeil built the Rams up from a poor team to one that won a SB. The Rams had a great core and they were foolish to hastily replace Vermeil with Martz, and they quickly became one demisional. I don’t get the comment on Vermeil at all. Stabler was a fine QB for his era. I always thought he was borderline HOF, definitely the benefactor of playing on a very strong teams. Put Joe Ferguson in his prime on those Raiders teams and he would have lit it up. Quote

Still not all that impressed w/ Plunkett. 3 hours ago, Pimlach said: This is off base. IMHO in the really big games he got outcoached just like Marv Levy had a tendency to do. If that Titan drives a yard further, he ends up the poor man's Marty Schottenheimer. Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted July 19, 2021 Report Posted July 19, 2021 So, I'll say again ... this really doesn't matter anymore, eh? Quote
