That Karlsson hit is a penalty in any regular season game and possibly a phone call from Toronto.

Looked like it hurt. Hurts less with a win though.

Armia……wasn’t he with Buffalo ?

And Byron and Staal.  And Carrier and maybe one or two others.  Now, Carrier was lost in the expansion draft, so I'm not so sure what the Sabres could have done there.  Byron was part of a fair trade for Regehr and Kotalik, and now he wears an A for the most storied team in hockey.  (Notably, that trade was part of the reason the Sabres were so thin at C in the early 10s--he was a center prospect when traded.)  Armia was part of the Kane trade that ended up being a lose-lose situation, though.

I heard Will Carrier's name as well. Great job there, Tim Murray.

Will Carrier was not a bad loss in the expansion draft. Joel Armia was not a bad loss in a trade that acquired Evander Kane.

And noone lamented Paul Byron being traded away.

The biggest mistake in team history, based on initial response, was non-tendering Tim Kennedy.

It was a great trade.  The Sabres got a solid defenseman (Regehr), a shootout specialist (return of Kotalik), and a second-round pick (McCabe) for an undersized C prospect (Byron) and a third-pair defenseman (Butler).  Tough to find fault with that.  But Byron is in the third round, and the Sabres haven't made the playoffs.

Montreal is winning lord stanley.

why rebuild? If I was the Sabres I'd simply overpay whatever it takes for a great goalie and win a cup for myself

interestingly the last two times we were relevant we had an elite goalie....

All these “not bad losses” add up to bad losses.  The Kane-Bogo acquisition did almost nothing to help the  team rebuild - I would have rather have kept Myers/Stafford/Armia/Lemiuex/draft pick (Roslovic).    Murray was terrible.  What was LaFontaine thinking when he found that bum.  Better yet, what was star stuck Terry thinking when he hired LaFontaine?

A goalie is a must.  We should be drafting and developing them regularly.  I guess Darcy thought Miller would last forever, and Murray was foiled by Lehner’s inner demons.

Hoping UPL and Portillo develop into something soon.

GMTM was a superstar GM that had a bad attitude which rubbed the Pegulas the wrong way so they fired him at the first chance they got. It’s the same reason Gerard Gallant was never interviewed.

His gruff probably cost him some favor around the league but who gives a ***** if the league likes your GM if he’s got pieces?

Superstar GM?   He was a first time, and only one-time, GM and he was a complete failure.  He gave away his own assets like candy and left the farm team bare.

Who cares if the league likes you?  He certainly should have for one.     What is he doing now?   Nothing from what I can tell.
