We could even sneak a qualifying spot as one of the best third place teams!

This is certainly a possibility, but you would have to win it outright, as your goal diferential is a bit of a problem if it comes to that.

Best possible outcome is a 5 (+) - nil win on Tuesday ...

Huge result for Hungary today in the early match.

Drawing WC holder France is fantastic result for Hungary, even though they are very unlikely to make it out of the group of death.  Small countries really need to take these kinds of results as huge wins.

Billy Gilmour out with COVID. however those crafty Austrians have just beaten the Ukraine to boost Scotland's chances of qualifying from 3rd place.

All eyes now turn to Group B at 8pm where Russia face Denmark and Finland take on Belgium. If the Belgians win then any win is enough for Scotland on Tuesday.

Russia are on a goal difference of -2 so while a draw would leave them on four points, Scotland would pip them on goal difference with any kind of win as ours would be, at worst, -1.

Exciting stuff.

Here’s hoping the Czechs stomp England and Scotland can get a win on Tuesday.   Not particularly confident of either, but hey, one never knows…

This isn’t what I asked for at all… boo.

Well, my Slovaks are going down in a real blaze of something other than glory.

And Sweden scores at 90+5 to take the lead after Poland tied it late.

Both matches now final ...

Sweden wins the Group E and Spain is through at second in the group.

Slovakia with a terrible GD will be hard pressed to be a third place finisher to advance.

In the late matches ...

Hungary is leading Germany 1 - 0 at the half.  Huge upset in the making if this score holds.  I have my doubts that it will.

Portugal and France are tied 1 - 1 at the half.

Finally settling in to watch some matches after vacation with relatives and bad cell signals.

France and Portugal is a good one.

Penalty kicks seem rather easy for good players like Ronaldo.

France, Germany and Portugal all make it through the 'group of death'.

Some interting matchups in the round of 16.

Begium and Portugal.

Germany and England.  It's 1940 all over again.

Spain and Croatia.

Some good sides are going to be eliminated at the next stage.

The matches start on Saturday.

My predictions

Wales 1 - 3 Denmark
Italy    4 - 0 Austria
Netherlands 2 - 2 Tsjech republic   - Dutch loose in penalties (they really suck at it)
Belgium  3 - 1 Portugal ( I can easy see us loose this one though)
Croatia 2 - 0 Spain ( spain has issues scoring)
France 1 - 2 Switzerland ( my next round upset, France not been playing to well and the swiss can play good counter football)
England 3-4 Germany
Sweden 0 - 0 Ucraine ( Sweden through on penalties)

Not gonna lie, 24 teams is too many.  The almost complete lack of jeopardy in the group stages, fun games notwithstanding, has been a bummer.  it should go back to 16, so we can talk about good teams being eliminated in qualifying, then the group stage, and so on.

We are in the bad part of the table 🙂

Portugal, beat them then probably Italy , semis most likely france or croatia.

If you make it to the final you will have certainly earned it.

I like most of your predictions, but I think France and Wales will take their matches.
