That's how penalties worked (although I don't remember what triggered a penalty). If your team was penalized, you'd put the defenseman behind that barrier, and the barrier would (supposedly) ensure that the puck would remain in play. Quote

But the slot for the one player goes through the barrier. You could go in the box and "fight" the penalized player! The other funny thing about the pics is that the seller put all of the players for one team on one side of the "ice." Quote
