Pimlach Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 (edited) Great to see. It would have been even better if in Buffalo with a full house. Edited May 9, 2021 by Pimlach 2 Quote

It’ll happen when they retire his jersey. I have a lot of respect for Miller’s intellect, his hockey knowledge and his leadership. I would love to see the Sabres tap him for the front office. I have never said that about a former Sabre. In fact, I think I generally roll my eyes at the idea. Edited May 9, 2021 by dudacek 2 1 Quote

Exactly. Let's not compound the error. 2 Quote
dudacek Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 The standard has been set. Ryan is the face of the franchise’s second great team and arguably the #3 “Sabre” of all-time. Team success, individual success, longevity, and community service and connection. If the standard is Rick Martin and Danny Gare, Ryan qualifies. 1 Quote

Stoner Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 Although Jame was joking, maybe you could take all the stuff that's hanging up there and make them smaller and put them in less prominent locations and just have a huge Cup banner in their place. Quote

My point is the line has already been drawn in a different spot and it’s too late to redraw it. The Sabres are hardly unique in this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Hockey_League_retired_numbers Quote

In The Buff Posted May 9, 2021 Report Posted May 9, 2021 I love me some Ryan Miller... especially since we share the same name & I've had the chance to hang out with him & his brother, father & mother a few times. I will always have a special place in my heart for Millsy. I do think Miller deserves to be honored in some way, but i don't believe he deserves to have his number retired... AT ALL! Especially not when theres other players who perhaps deserve it more. Like 1 of the Ramseys/Ramsays or Andreychuk (dare i say Housley) haha But in terms of Sabres history & our record books, i do think that he deserves something. Maybe a nice commemorative plaque somewhere? Franchise leader in goaltender games (540) Franchise leader in goaltender minutes (31,661) Franchise leader in career wins (284) Franchise record for most wins in a season (41 in 2009–10) 1 Quote

I have always believed that Gare and LaLa were Quinn’s doing. Should be 11 , 39 and 2...that’s it. Unfortunately, numbers aren’t going to be un-retired, so 7, 14, 16 and 18 will remain in the rafters. ...and while I am at, on a related subject, allow for my daily dose of Pegula bashing... where is the Sabres HoF?...perfect location on 1st floor adjacent to Main St. Make it happen Terry! This hopefully comes to fruition with next arena renovation. 🤞🤞 Edited May 9, 2021 by LabattBlue 1 Quote

I don’t even know if I would call that a HoF...especially since it is in an area normally not accessible to fans. I’ve always envisioned a HoF at the arena that is free to ticket holders on game day, and a paid admission the rest of the time. Quote

Yeah, I don't know what other teams do...I've been in a fair amount of arenas, stadiums, and the like and I can't really think of any local team hall of fame other than Monument Park. The Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame is in the Arena (next to the Sabres Store) and it would be nice to have an accessible Sabres HoF. I don't think that I would pay to see it, though. It seems like the sort of thing that I would spend about ten minutes looking at. Quote

Jim Kelley, Rudy Migay, Jerry Korab. Maybe to the Pegulas' credit, no one's been inducted since 2012 when Rick and Dale went in. Hindsight is 20/20 (or 1980). If you could start from scratch you'd have a ring (or rink) of honor for most of the people in the current Hall of Fame, your HOF would be the cream of the crop and of the COTC you'd have 11 and 39 in the rafters, although it's hard to argue with retiring a number of a player who died while still a Sabre. 1 Quote
