Islanders had already clinched a playoff spot and are only playing for seeding.  You’d think they’d want to avoid Washington as they were 2-6 vs them.  Also 3-5 vs Pens.      5-2 vs Boston with one remaining.

To those who saw the game, did Isles take the Sabres lightly these last 2 games?

I like this whole experiment because a good team should give pretty much any NHL caliber goalie a chance to win every night. These kids learning that it's possible to win with some random guy in net is a good thing. They'll remember it and they'll remember what it took.

Hardly. They were outplaying the Sabres in both, but the Sabres took the game back in the third. 2 quality wins.

Great team effort. As others have pointed out, these are the moments, the games, that are going to propel these young players in to the future. Yes, they can play against the best teams in the league, and win.

There is still much work to do, but progress in the W column is so important for this franchise right now.

Go Sabres!

The Houser story takes yet another interesting twist on Thursday and Saturday....playing in front of Mom & Dad in Pittsburgh.  Gotta be emotional for him to do so.  That said, maybe his age and hard road to the NHL are helping him cope with all the feelings he's going through right now.  Can't wait to see him play on Thurs.

You got it backwards. It doesn't matter if the goalie is a nondescript player or even a future HOF goalie. As demonstrated in this game it is the quality of play of the goalie that kept the outplayed and less talented Sabres in this game. I'm not criticizing the play of the Sabres because they showed a lot of character by keep pushing on even when they were two goals behind against a team that rarely gives up the lead after it gets it. As you rightly said this is a game that the young guys can gain confidence from.

Sabres might be 54-0 right now if Doogie started the season in net, 😆

And Granato was the coach at the start,  Reinhardt was playing center the whole year, Dahlin was allowed to play free, etc.

Like the bear said: "did NOT see that coming."

Not only did the team get their 1st btb sweep of the year, this is only their 3rd winning streak of the year.  (They'd won 2 in a row one time each under both of the coaches.)

The heroes were Cody friggin' Eakin, Anders Bjork who really had been looking pretty bad the past 3 or so games, & Michael Houser who never would've even gotten a start if Tokarski didn't have to leave for a family matter (again, hoping all of his kin are well).

And now Houser is essentially the anti-Lehner stopping all 3 SO attempts.  What a great story.  Wondering how many other goalies were perfect in the SO their entire careers?
