So Pi asked on the Free Agency thread about FIsh's other players

Interestingly enough, he also has a website which seemingly hasn't been updated since 2017-2018.

For a conspiracy, Fish represented Chris Drury. So perhaps he's trying to help his former client get his present one?

Doubt it. I envision Jack calling him last night, voice cracking, red faced and screaming to “do something already”, thus the statement from Fish.

He's basically asking for an experimental surgery, and seemed to be doing so very early in the process where wait and see is the medical gold standard.

I don't blame terry and Kim at all for this....he's asking for 50M guaranteed to toss a piece of plastic into his spinal cord.

disc replacement or fusion surgery is not experimental. I had a disc replaced in my lower spine. It's a pretty common surgery

Heading for an ugly divorce!! Jack wants a surgery that's never been performed on a hockey player. Sabres want the disc fusion which they have much more info about. Who's gonna win the tug of war?

disc replacement surgery is performed often. Why is this comment always used?

A most interesting situation with many good points above.  I understand that the Sabres want four assets in return for JE.  Would anyone here

take Zegras. Drysdale and a first rounder?

Yes, every person here would. If this were being offered he’d be gone but it’s not being offered and never will be.

Then end the charade. If they're not going to offer, end the talks. Like I posted earlier. Jack we tried, it didn't work. Get ready for training camp.  What does Adams think will happen in the next month to improve the offers made to him?

We'll you just saw the reaction of that.

You know in the game of who will blink first, Adams or another GM, I did not think the answer was Eichel.

Management malpractice.

I still think Adams blinks first.  They won’t want this type of distraction and the public griping by Eichel gives them the cover they need to sell a poor trade to their fanbase - “See?  He was a cancer and we just had get rid of him for the sake of the young core.”

Some fans are certainly blinking like a railroad crossing.

I don't know, the weird pissing match (?) between Fish and the Sabres is kind of funny.

I never got the feeling from Eichel's camp he's pressuring anything /s

Or that he ever said he wants to leave Buffalo. /s

The fact his Twitter handle was @JackEichel15 showed poor judgment from the start.

I'm a bit shocked he deleted it tho.

Did he tweet something that was immediately deleted and that prompted this statement from the agent?

Used yes, on everyday people. Not on 25 year old athletes who will take large amounts of physical abuse on a near daily basis.

It's "experimental" in the sense it has never been done to a professional hockey player.

Upthread someone mentioned liability to the Sabres if team approved the surgery and he were paralyzed after a hit. Is this true?

So what are we doing? If he needs risky surgery, why are we expecting a big haul in return for him?

a dilemma or difficult circumstance from which there is no escape because of mutually conflicting or dependent conditions

This may be the first step by Eichel's camp to file a grievance with the league which could end up in the hands of an arbitrator.

Interesting and maybe true. The league better think about this ruling long and hard. If they allow the surgery and Eichel can’t recover do they have liability?  I think they would.

I have been saying all along that no good GM would meet the Sabres request because of the risk.  So far this has been correct.  Now we could go into uncharted territory.

Every GM in the league knows that the Sabres need to trade Eichel, but the actions of Eichel's agents are not helping this process.  This is a complete mess on top of the mess of a team that we already have.  Clearly, the Sabres wanted to trade Eichel before the draft to get assets in the draft.  After that did not happen, trading Eichel before free agency must have been the goal because they knew that some teams would be otherwise spending cap dollars that would affect their ability to add Eichel.  The offers must be really poor (if there have been any real offers), and they are unlikely to get better at this point having given the current situation.

I was going to post something along these lines - perhaps less nefarious.

Fish is in contact with league GMs and I’m sure he’s keeping tabs on the trade daily. Perhaps teams are frustrated by the asking price, or feel they have met it. There could also be frustration with the Sabres not taking back salary.

Leading to Fish requesting - “wrap it up”

Screw Eichel, and the little pony he rode in on. If someone does not include a potential line 1 center, the talks are dead.

Adam's is not here to make Eichel or his agent happy, he is here to make the Sabres a better team. This trade shapes the next 5 years plus for this team and he can't settle.

Something very interesting here.  Elliot Friedman and Jeff Marek’s 31 Thoughts Podcast just released an episode which is a 30+ min conversation with Jack Eichel’s doctor who is recommended disk replacement and would perform the surgery.  Everyone should give it a listen.

Who is his doctor that says he would perform the surgery?

The first leak of Eichel trade talks, even before the injury, was with the Rangers.

Amazing how magically Friedman had this ready to go on the same night as the statement.
