Of course, Rich didn't get fired from the station. He's suspended. He did get fired from PSE, but not for making a racial joke on the radio.

Rich got fired by the Sabres for being involved with a racial joke on the radio?

Will you be leading the campaign to get Genzler his job back? FYI he was also let go as UB's game announcer so you'll be busy

"Involved with" is an appropriately murky way of putting it.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, Rob. No. No, man. That's not right. Let's leave that there. Just, no."

There's definitely some unfair guilt by association with Genzler. But he is the main guy on the show and he was probably held to account for not shutting the bit down before it got that far.

No, but he and his attorney should be. I hope he doesn't just lie down and take his medicine. It's interesting to note that in the first version of PSE's statement, Genzler was identified as "on-air" talent. It was later changed to "in-arena." Do the Pegulas even know who he is? Also, read the statement. It's so ambiguous as to who is being fired that I have to wonder if Terry and Kim, like some posters in this thread, have no idea what Genzler really said. It's the co-host who is being condemned.

You mention psychology.  OK. What makes a person attractive?   It isn't looks? It isn't shared history? It isn't financial stablity? It isn't a sense that the partner would make a good parent?  It isn't sexiness?   As a scientist, I believe in evolution. Evolution enforced by racial marriage quotas, for example, would be a very strange kind of evolution.  Evolution assumes some level of free agency.   I don't believe in a "benevolent" dictator enforcing corrections on long evolved partly subconscious decision making.

As for the radio show not being a Science show.  Of course, it isn't science.  It's radio.  Radio for the masses.  Radio for the scientifically illiterate.  I wouldn't expect a radio host to be well versed in science and psychology.  As I said, I thought that the conversation was insensitive and in extremely poor taste. But the underlying revelations are the same. These radio guys expressed themselves in the way that they knew how.  And perhaps that means that they deserve to be off the air because their ability for nuanced expression is severely lacking.  I'm just saying that research shows that they are not alone in how they feel about dating people of different colors/backgrounds.  Why this is so, it cannot be determined if we shoot people for saying that this is how they feel.

How many of you out there have dated Black women?  Just curious.  Y'all seem to think that you're perfectly free from racism.  Just wondering.  No one has to answer. I'm not going to get into my relationship history, except to say that the Bible commands believers to only marry other true believers; I make no apologies for drawing a line there.

Well in this case the issue was physical attractiveness. Physical attractiveness in the western world is influenced by popular culture. The dominate popular culture in the west has been a white European culture since imperialism and probably before. Now because of technology that culture gets beamed into your face at 100mbs. Not sure what your theory on evolution is here.

I don't think I'm free of racism. That would imply I didn't grow up in the US during a time where racism exists and was somehow unaffected by it's imbedded cultural norms. Dating involves circumstances and friend groups and in America we tend to be somewhat racially segregated due to an entire list of reasons. I don't date whites because I find black unattractive, I date them because those are the ppl I know.

That is not the same as a white man going on a radio and explaining why HE, the white man, thinks black women are attractive or not based on skin tone. It is a very clear example of racism and it really doesn't matter what he thinks or wants to express. We haven't even gotten into the topic of women are more valuable than how they look. I believe he mentioned Serene Williams, one of the very best athletes on the planet, that he reduced to her skin tone. Everything about that clip is problematic and there is no reason to amplify that thinking in a public sphere. I can't imagine being a woman of color in America and hearing crap like that constantly. Imagine being told you aren't attractive because your skin is too dark, what a horrible thing. I am glad he was fired, he deserved it, and should be ridiculed about it. You know who shouldn't be ridiculed, people based on their skin color regardless of someone else's own personal beauty standards.

I honestly don't care what the bible says. I also don't go into the religion thread and tell ppl why I think that.

Like totally.  Wow.  In this day and age, people should know that speaking honestly from the heart is unacceptable.  Sure, saying it on radio is dumb.  But studies have shown that Whites, Asians, and even Blacks men find Black women the least attractive.

Here's one such abstract:

But, you know, that whole science thing is not allowed in a Thought Police Communist Era.    In contrast to others, I KNOW Physics.  I know science. And science can NOT function in a world where open and honest dialog is not allowed.  Was this radio conversation really insensitive? Sure.  I wouldn't say it on radio.  But as you can see, I'm not afraid to tell the truth.   A fact's a fact from Nome to Rome.

Science,... you’re funny. Who did that study, the Epoch Times?

It would be cool if they could somehow get a hold of a bunch of Milt Ellis penalty call recordings or other sound snippets, and somehow work those into games going forward.

Like the P/A announcer pushes a button that triggers Milt saying "Buffalo Penalty" and then he takes over with the rest.

There must be a recording of Milt saying "Ladies and gentlemen, your Buffalo Sabres" as they skate out onto the ice before a game.  That could be used, etc.

This would be cool and fans would eat it up.

It won't happen.

Haven’t listened to 97Rock in at least a decade.  Probably more. Were any of the morning show that got let go any of the old guard?  Any Buffalo radio icons, or are they all long gone?

If, and I mean IF, I put 97 on, it's because I want to listen to some classic rock.  Not because I want to listen to Rich freaking Gaenzler tell stupid jokes.  I never  have listened to an FM morning show, and I think it's unlikely that I ever will.

These guys were obsolete anyway.  And idiotic.  So, well, bye.

I haven't listened to morning radio since I was old enough to drive a car and got to control the radio. Hack jokes and nonsense. Loud laughing at ***** that isn't funny. Bob & Tom were funny when I was 12.

96.5 here in Rochester has a morning show that I’m addicted to.  Not your typical hack radio stuff.
