This actually changes the entire completion of the trade.  Johansson was going to be a UFA.  So Adams got a 6th for a Johansson rental.

Same tweeter--and my source for saying he will be RFA.  Maybe Capfriendly needs to pull it together:

The tweet suggesting UFA was sent later.  I think the way it probably goes is that he is technically by default an RFA, unless he fails to meet certain NHL games played thresholds.

Adams thinks our goaltending is so good he’s now trading goalies out instead of bringing them in.

Even Paul Hamilton though he sucked balls who hasn’t said anything disparaging about a Sabre, outside of Sam Reinhart, in his career.

Johansson had to play something like 26 NHL games this season in order to remain an RFA.

He will be a UFA and the Sabres got an asset they could for a player they were unlikely to re-sign.

He's a borderline prospect at best.

It's like trading Justin Bailey for Taylor Leier.

You are being kind, and giving a generous return.

Yeah, the Sabres are giving away a G they spent a 3rd round pick on, spent 7 years developing, was an AHL all-star last season, played in a handful of NHL games behind a team that can’t score and plays bad D.

Ship him out for a 6th round pick. Makes sense. Capable goaltending grows on trees I guess.

JJ .... capable? As in NHL capable? Or do you just mean “getting paid to play goaltender at any level”  capable?

And just like EVERY player who gets traded away from the Sabres, someone will let everyone else on this board know when he gets an assist or wins a game or gets a shutout or secures a permanent backup role on an NHL team 😂

We won't be surprised though that at some point we play Colorado and face JJ, he'll get a shutout against Buffalo and we'll be wondering what we wasted the 6th rounder on.

They can resign him in the offseason.  If he doesn’t want to be in Rochester/Buffalo then they were going to lose him for nothing after this season anyway.

Johannson just got his first shutout in his career the other night. So what does Colorado do? They acquire Devan Dubnyk the next day. So now Johannson's down to #3.

Dear haters,

JJ w/ COL....

3 games, 2-0-1, 2.13 GAA, .921 SV%

...i hated this trade from day one, to give up on a young goalie prospect you spent years of resources on to develop is how you build a losing franchise.

And Hutton is still a Sabre, smh.

It's scary you think 3 games is a good sample size

You obviously feel very strongly about this.

What would you have done with Jonas Johansson?  What would have been your plan with him going forward?

Contract?

Where would you want him playing next season, and beyond?

Hutton is still a Sabre because nobody is taking him off their hands & if he goes to IR or gets punted into the sun the Amerks don't have enough goaltending.

Unless they were planning on having Johansson slotted into the backup role next season (do you really want that to happen) see no reason for him to want to be back with this team.  And he holds all the cards.  Teams have to cut bait with slow developing players all the time.  Most wash out, a few make it.  Johansson is more likely to wash out than make it.  The 6th is at least SOMETHING they have to show for him.  Who knows, maybe that pick is the extra part of the package to bring in their other goalie next year & then we can always think of Jonas as the part that got the Sabres that guy's glove hand.  😉

I already covered this.

A good sample size for what?

It's funny, the consensus here was they stole a 5th from COL for a guy who is no where near NHL material.

Again, he's still young for a goalie and he's imrpoved at every level he's played.

This 3 game stretch proves he's at least capable of playing in the NHL.  Wether or not he can sustain those numbers, probably not, but he's proven that he belongs and when he's on, he's above average... better than Tokarski and Hutton.

A good sample size for drawing conclusions.
