Bob Wischusen and Leah Hextall will do some play-by-play for ESPN but they haven’t picked their number one yet. Steve Levy and Sean McDonagh, already under contract with the ESPN, are two people under consideration.

Kevin Weekes, PK Subban, Ray Ferraro and Brian Boucher have all been signed as analysts.

Subban is retiring?

Anyone besides Shea Weber who saw it in any way remotely possible that he'd still be in the league and Per Karl wouldn't be back on the day Weber became a Hab?

We were all pretty far off on that deal. Methinks Shea Weber is a Hall of Famer. PK? Was on track to be but would need a late-career resurgence.

ESPN+ has nothing at all. You wouldn't even know they are covering hockey again.

I thought there would be an NHL daily type of show since training camps open in a few weeks.

The season is over a month away and the NHL doesn’t carry the fandom the NFL and NBA have so they’re not going to spend much time in the offseason giving them shows or coverage when nothing at all is happening.

New network. Figured ESPN+ atleast would start trying to attract an audience.

There's plenty to discuss as teams lead up to training camp. Reset the offseason, look ahead to the new season and how they plan to cover it. 

 

Not to mention. Olympic year.

Is ESPN+ now going to be a network rather than ESPN's on-line platform?  Had not heard that.

Not sure. They are broadcasting hockey is all I know. The ESPN+ platform as a whole leaves alot to be desired to be honest.

It will still be online. ESPN+ has actually been broadcasting hockey since last season because they acquired rights from regional networks in the Fox Sports acquisition.

The NHL is an established brand, they’re not going to conjure up a whole new audience just because they had a show for a few weeks. The work is going to take years - they’ll need to put in the work and establish a voice again in the hockey market.

The only issue I have with ESPN+ is that the fast forward and rewind are way too fast. Other than that, it's been pretty great for the UFC.

ESPN acquired Fox Sports?  Our local Fox is now Bally Sports.  (Or is Bally part of Disney too?)

Right. Better get started then. The network shunned hockey completely when they didn't get the last broadcast contract.

They do have alot of work to do, that's why they should already have some content for anyone curious as to how they are going to handle it.

It’s a long winding road. Disney acquired 21st Century Fox which included something like two dozen regional Fox Sports networks which put those networks streaming on their ESPN+ platform with Fox Sports graphics packages. Courts forced Disney to sell the regional networks so they were sold to Sinclair who then sold the branding rights to Bally.
