Matt Ellis Behind the Sabres Bench?

Friedman on the 31 Thoughts Pod mentioned he wonders if Matt Ellis ends up behind the Sabres Bench, not as the HC. Mentioned He is a relentlessly positive person. There seems to be growing speculation on this.

His name came up today when S&B were talking to Paul Hamilton on WGR-550.

It was suggested Ellis is a guy who is in the organization and who is capable of running the Sabres bench on an interim basis if/when Krueger is fired.

Mike Weber's name also came up, who is an assistant coach in Rochester.

You know, it would really screw up that old thread if Matt Ellis took over as interim coach, guided the Sabres to a deep run in the playoffs, got hired for a year or two and went on to be one of the greatest coaches in NHL history.

No way, that would look so bad on the Pegulas and Adams. I guess I shouldn't completely dismiss the idea, but I highly doubt they would do that.

Why?  If he was the target, "suggest" to him that he quarantine in preparation for his new opportunity.

I'd be OK with Ellis...

They went with an older guy in Krueger, an older former player (with asst experience) in Housley, a somewhat younger cup winner in Bylsma.....none of them really worked with this roster/core.  If you want to try Ellis, I'm fine.

Just for s&g, the players left from Disco Dan's first season (15-16) are: Jack, Sam, Rasmus R., Zemgus, Jake, LEEnoose.
