Jerry Jones has so much power and sway in the NFL despite failing to do anything worth discussing on the field in decades.

And that's why I love to refer to his team as Jerry's Kids.

How is everyone feeling heading into week 1? I’m surprised at how little hype this game has gotten. The Steelers aren’t the Steelers of 5/6 years ago but they’re a damn good team with a damn good coach. Big Ben will be his best early in the year because his body won’t slow down until a little later in the year as the weather gets colder. This isn’t going to be a walk in the park even if it’s a game I’m confident they should and will win.

The TJ Watt stuff is an interesting wrinkle because they’re obviously much easier to beat if he’s not playing.

Where is the game?

If it’s in Pittsburgh, then I am with @inkman.

If it’s in Buffalo, then Bills by a gazillion.

I'm really interested in how the defensive line does. Last season, Ben was sacked on 2.09% of dropbacks. That's the lowest any active QB has had in any season of their career. Much of that is because Ben was throwing quick, short passes, but that's still impressive.

Edit: Dropkick? Dropbacks. Thanks, phone. Heh.

My nephew is coming up from Florida for hunting season and wanted to see the Bills-Pats. So he bought tickets. We'll be down in 108 close to the field. I would have advised him to get a little higher (shut up, @Eleven), but I wasn't consulted. (Actually, I would have advised him to buy a lot higher, as in the upper deck. These tickets were well over $200 bucks. Ouch.) My brother, the nephew's father, won't attend because of the black national anthem, kneeling or some such other nonsense.

It'll be an interesting experience. I haven't been to a regular season since 2000, I think. Whatever year they played SD. Flutie was the QB. Since then, as I've mentioned here, I fell out of love with the Bills and divorced them. I am resolved, however, for one night to have sex with my ex. I am going to fake it beyond belief. Most of all, I just want it to snow. Really hard.

My group of 6 paid over $300 per ticket with fees to sit upper deck for the home opener. Would have taken $200 any day of the week. Never thought I would spend a grand on a Bills game counting flights and boarding the dogs.

I don't see it. Bills are too deep everywhere.

Emmanuel Sanders was a genius pick-up.I think the Bills have the best WR crew in the NFL. Our RBs are avg.

Our defense is really not that impressive-esp on the from 7 exc for Milano. Our DBs are def above average.

I think the game will be close but PITT is used to the big stage.

Tremaine Edmunds disrespect continues. They’ve got two very good linebackers. Defensive line is a bit of a wildcard but if the preseason is to be believed they’ll have a stellar front.

Also, I wouldn’t call a 1 pm game in week 1 “the big stage” nor do I think Pittsburgh is anymore experienced with it than the Bills are as the two are currently constructed.

The Bills have beaten them on that big stage two years in a row.

Really hoping a Tremaine extension isn’t too far off because this locker room clearly values him

Are they over or under the cap?

Why do we need 8 captains?  I can see Diggs or Allen for the offense. I can see Edmunds for the defense and Jones for special teams, but the rest?

Eh, seems excessive, but teams forever seemed to have 5 or 6.  Guess they figure 2 O captains, 2 D (Edmonds and the Siamese monster that is Poyer-Hyde 😉 ), and then 1 coverage Captain, 1 return captain, & 1 specialist captain covering all 3 areas of STs isn't too many.

On the list of 1000 things I’m concerned about with the Bills, this ranks 1001.

Let’s just hope his play resembles his locker room presence.

This is a big year for him, for sure. I hope he plays well enough that he puts the Bills in a position where they have to figure out how to extend him beyond Year 5.

I know that some here think very highly of Edmunds. Are we to make anything of the fact that he's not yet been signed to a multi-year deal? Is that a function of the year he was drafted and in what round? Or a sign of the FO having some unanswered questions?

It already does and I suspect coming into a season fully healthy vs battling injuries last year will only make him better.

I don’t believe there’s anything to make of it. It’s rare for guys to get extended this early. QBs are the only ones teams rush to sign before they even get to that fifth year of their rookie deal.

It’s league standard. They’ve got three on offense and defense and two on special teams.

How does this timeline compare with Milano's? Did Milano not have a 5th year option because he wasn't a 1st round pick? (I am just making things up.)

Indeed. Milano was also very near UFA status when he signed his deal (just days away, in fact).

The only first round pick in Edmunds’ draft that has received an extension beyond their rookie deal is Josh Allen. Guys like Quenton Nelson, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Baker Mayfield, Bradley Chubb, Lamar Jackson and several other stars taken in that first round have not gotten new deals. Nothing to note on Edmunds not getting his.
