Cascade Youth Posted January 12, 2021 Report Posted January 12, 2021 https://theathletic.com/2316763/2021/01/11/sharks-evander-kane-bankruptcy/?source=user_shared_article Not purely Sabres-related so feel free to move to another thread. The lifestyle stuff is interesting though. He has clearly “lived hard,” pissing away his earnings on failed investments and incredibly desperate gambles including actually gambling at casinos. Always saddened and fascinated by how quickly people can go broke. From the article: ”It’s unclear how the 29-year-old Kane, who has earned $52.9 million in team pay during his 11-year career, according to capfriendly.com, lost his money, but there are a few clues in the petition. Last year, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas settled a lawsuit against Kane for unpaid gambling bills. According to the Chapter 7 petition, in the last 12 months, he lost $1.5 million gambling.” 1 Quote

They aren't gonna give up his actual numbers. They more than likely overextended his credit line, then gave him another 20% on top of that and he just stiffed em. Happens all the time with high limit players. Edited January 12, 2021 by ubkev 1 Quote
bunomatic Posted January 12, 2021 Report Posted January 12, 2021 I remember those photo’s of Evander showing off the big stacks and thinking what a douche move. I hope he stops the slide as well but that will require some deep soul searching and he’ll have to eat some humble pie. Is his Ego too big for that Who knows ? Quote
That Aud Smell Posted January 12, 2021 Report Posted January 12, 2021 This is not surprising. Evander Kane and Adrian Peterson are birds of a feathers. Broke-ass birds. Quote
Eleven Posted January 12, 2021 Report Posted January 12, 2021 Did he just say it, or did he declare it? Quote

Curt Posted January 12, 2021 Report Posted January 12, 2021 I honestly hope that he has just been very reckless and bad at managing his money, as opposed to having a real gambling problem. Good news for him is that he has something like $30M+ coming in over the next 5 years. Quote

At worst Kane is a degenerate gambler who has allowed himself to take on six dependents who are almost certainly Jack Johnsoning him. Quote

I’m just saying they’re both athletes with career earnings in the multiple 10s of millions who are somehow insolvent. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/25/adrian-peterson-faces-debt-woes-how-athletes-can-botch-their-finances.html Quote
Thorner Posted January 12, 2021 Report Posted January 12, 2021 You know how as you get older, and you accumulate more age, huge amounts of time can seem to pass by in the space of an instant? I think it must be like that with money. 1 Quote

Guy was a problem child when Murray took the chance on him, was a problem child in Buffalo, and apparently is still one. Lived the high life and is paying the price. Idiot. Good thing we ditched him. That’s good that you don’t find it sad… I do. It’s not up for debate you feel one way and I feel the other end of story. 1 Quote

I do not believe rich athletes who blow it through stupidity deserve sympathy. and definitely not the rapey ones. Quote

MODO Hockey Posted January 12, 2021 Report Posted January 12, 2021 This is a sad story to be honest. He is not alone though, Alot of talanted young people that make huge money on their talant and does not have ppl around them that can teach them how they must behave towards life it self and whatever comes with it, eventually, they will end up draining it all to shait. Just like Evander. I hope he can get help for his gambling addiction 3 Quote
I-90 W Posted January 12, 2021 Report Posted January 12, 2021 Reports that he may walk away from his SJ contract and declare bankruptcy. He is citing health concerns due to the birth of his child; have no idea what that means. Think the only play he has is bankruptcy, other than buckling down and paying his debts. Though it doesn't sound like he is going to be doing that. Quote
