dudacek Posted December 30, 2020 Author Report Posted December 30, 2020 Quinn gets his 2nd assist on a Byfield PP goal. Byfield has 4 points. Quinn back on the Byfield line. And he sets up Byfield for his fifth point, Quiinn’s 3rd apple. Very nice pass. Quote

dudacek Posted December 30, 2020 Author Report Posted December 30, 2020 Byfield’s line again, this time Pelletier. Quinn didn’t get an assist, but carried the puck in on the rush and threw the check that caused the turnover Quote
French Collection Posted December 30, 2020 Report Posted December 30, 2020 Cozens on PP1 and PK1. Quinn on PP2 and PK2. Plenty of special teams ice time on a talented squad. Quote

French Collection Posted December 30, 2020 Report Posted December 30, 2020 Here’s another example of how tough an 18 year old draft is, Alex Turcotte was drafted ahead of Cozens and Zegras. He has not been a factor last year or this year so far. Things may change again in 3-4 years. I still like the Cozens pick. I was really hoping for Rossi this year but Quinn is growing on me. I see a lot of Mark Stone in him and if he approaches that level it is a great pick. Quote
dudacek Posted December 30, 2020 Author Report Posted December 30, 2020 Cozens with 4 goals and 5 assists in 3 games, second to Zegras with 10. Looks like they took away Quinn’s PP assist on the Byfield tip, but he’s still 1/3/4 in 3 and leads all tournament forwards at +8. This is an interesting stat line: Byfield 2/5/7/+7 Stutzle 3/2/5/-5 Raymond 1/2/3/+1 Sanderson 0/1/1/+2 Drysdale 0/2/2/+12 Holtz 0/1/1/+1 Quinn 1/3/4/+8 Rossi 0/0/0/-5 Perfetti 1/4/5/+3 Lundell 2/1/3/+3 Holloway 0/1/1/+3 Mercer 2/3/5/+6 Zary 0/1/1/+4 Jarventie 0/0/0/-1 Peterka 1/4/5/-6 Colangelo 1/0/1/+1 Gunler 3/0/3/+2 Quote

That’s something the coaches love and will trust him with important ice time. Quote

Perfetti has one more point, and has wonderful vision and hands, but he’s been a PP specialist. You can’t overrate the WJC (especially given Rossi’s team), but it is gratifying to see how our picks are performing versus the guys rated around them. Edited December 30, 2020 by dudacek Quote

JJP has been excellent for the Germans and Quinn is looking as good or better then Rossi or Perfetti. Johnson is looking better. Cozens vs Zegras is a great debate that is going to carry over into the NHL. It looks like we couldn’t have gone wrong with either player. I think i wanted Cozens on draft day, but I remember a pretty big debate about the top Americans (Turcotte, Zegras) vs the top Canadians (Dach, Cozens, Krebs). I’ll say this, there is a lot to like about the guys drafted 12-18 in 2019 in Boldy, Knight, York, Caufield, Newhook, Krebs, Harley. I love York’s game and hate to think of him in a Flyers uniform sooner then later. Quote

He is fast, shifty and drives to the net. Quote

And his style fills a need better than Zegras right now. I’m convinced he can be a top six RW; I hope he can be an elite 2C. Funny you say that about York. I only casually watched today’s game, but saw he put up a good stat line. I watched the first two games more closely and thought he isn’t the 1D the Americans are using him as. 2 minutes ago, Curt said: Did Carter ever have that speed??? Not even close. Brawndo Posted December 30, 2020 Report Posted December 30, 2020 Compare the D+1 Years between Cozens and Zegras. Zegras had 5 more points than Mittlestadt did in His Freshman Year. 1 Quote
PerreaultForever Posted December 30, 2020 Report Posted December 30, 2020 Cozens was dominant. Byfield was dominant. Quinn looked pretty good. Again though, weak competition so hard to judge. Finland game will tell us more. TSN said Cozens' nickname was the "Workhorse from Whitehorse." I like it and vote we adopt it. 1 Quote

By my eye it's varied from game to game, but he's been top 2 each game. For example, I don't think he was Canada's best player last night, but he sure was their next best player last night. He's a cornerstone for that team for sure. What I've liked is he seems to always be in on a play. He's consistently made things happen. I can't wait to see how he looks against tougher competition. 2 Quote

What NS said. Canada is ridiculously deep and is playing everybody, so don’t picture him as always on the ice and controlling the games the way Jack does. But he is on the first PP, he is killing penalties, he is playing against the other team’s best players, and he is leading the team in goals and in assists. I think it is also pretty clear he is becoming the leader and will be the go-to guy when the games get close in a way they haven’t been so far. Quote

To the bolded, completely understood. I guess i'm trying to get a feel for how he comares to his own teammates because that's who we'll be comparing him to in the NHL for the next decade. Tough to do vs guys a year behind like Byfield and Perfetti, sure. Quote

Cozens plays nothing like him and is primarily on the wing, but he is being used in the same situations as Point and being leaned on the same way. They had a Kucherov in Dach, but with him out Cozens is the main guy. Quinn’s role has been more like Killorn’s - a secondary guy in all situations who has bounced around the top nine. Im curious to see where he fits when the games get tighter and the bench gets shorter. Edited December 30, 2020 by dudacek Quote
