IKnowPhysics Posted October 10, 2020 Author Report Posted October 10, 2020 Will the Rochester Americans have the highest payroll in the AHL? Maybe. Sabres could sign a player up to $1.075M on a one way contract for 2020-21 and still get 100% cap relief upon assignment to Rochester (pending waivers). Burying contracts and the buried threshold: Quote The minimum NHL Salary is set in the CBA (11.12.a) and is as follows: 2012-13 – U.S. $525,000 2013-14 – U.S. $550,000 2014-15 – U.S. $550,000 2015-16 – U.S. $575,000 2016-17 – U.S. $575,000 2017-18 – U.S. $650,000 2018-19 – U.S. $650,000 2019-20 – U.S. $700,0002020-21 – U.S. $700,000 2021-22 – U.S. $750,000 The amount of Cap Relief that a team gets from assigning a player to the AHL is the lesser of their Cap Hit and the NHL Minimum Salary + $375,000 (Buried Threshold). Therefore, if a player with a Cap Hit less than the Buried Threshold is sent down, their full Cap Hit no longer counts on the Team's total cap hit. If a player has a Cap Hit greater than the Buried Threshold, if they are sent to AHL the team's Cap Hit is the player Cap Hit - Buried Threshold. The Buried Threshold is as follows: 2012-13: $525,000 + $375,000 = $900,000 2013-14: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000 2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000 2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000 2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000 2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000 2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000 2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000 2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000 2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000 1 1 Quote

Macy's is overpriced shiny stuff made in Chinese sweatshops. 😉 Long term could prove wise. Wait and be patient to see the entire picture. Don't gasp at every little brush stroke. Quote

dudacek Posted October 10, 2020 Report Posted October 10, 2020 The brief reactions I've seen elsewhere to this guy is that he's a well-respected, character tweener. Basically, it seems like we signed 3 Curtis Lazars today. 1 Quote

Taro T Posted October 10, 2020 Report Posted October 10, 2020 You can never have enough Curtis Lazars. Nor apparently can the Amerks have too many NHL contracts. Quote

They have 4. It’s that a lot? These depth signings are the type of moves that almost every NHL team makes every offseason. They aren’t what we are all looking for to improve the Sabres, but you still need to fill out the organizational depth. 1 Quote

Markstrom out, Holtby in. Markstrom in, Brodie out. Krug in Pietrangelo out Or they signed a few bottom end players Id be surprised if you found a half-dozen teams that made big improvements today. And technically it doesn't matter which order they show up in. But that does nothing to lessen the frustration of 9 previous years of unsatisfying results. When Adams makes a move that improves the Sabres, he'll get credit for it. They weren't made today though, so no credit to give. Quote

These signings aren’t something to be frustrated by. Viewing every benign, mundane NHL personnel transaction through the lens of nine years of failure is a sure fire way of finding fault in places where they don’t exist. There aren’t too many high priced players for the AHL roster. These players will probably be fine for the minor roles they will fill. There isn’t anything wrong with these signings. It’s just that everyone wants other moves in addition to them. Quote

Is this supposed to belittle the addition? In my opinion, the checking line C is the most important piece remaining with the possible exception of goalie. The most crucial forward add we still need. I would have loved for them to fill in the biggest piece of the puzzle remaining, yes. Wennberg would have been a swell add. Not complaining, but you asked for players we wanted. Saying it again - The Larsson hole represents our 2nd most used C last year. Staal is going to shift the balance of usage a bit I'd imagine, but without bringing in a C to help account for the tough defensive minutes Larsson ate up, the 2C upgrade is largely mitigated. We need to fill it with a C this off-season. All year we talked about needing to add a 2C, and that was WITH the Larsson hole filled. It's Mittelstadt right now.
