The total NHL roster is currently: 12F, 9D, 2G.

  1. Eichel, $10M
  2. Skinner, $9M
  3. Hall, $8M

We have $13.646M to use, including signing RFAs.  Of the four minimum QOs sent, three filed for arbitration:

  1. Reinhart, $3.65M - min $3.75M
  2. Olofsson, $0.7675 - min $0.7M
  3. Pilut, $0.925M - min $0.8325M
  4. Ullmark, $1.325M - min $1.325M

Offer sheet Cirelli or Sergachev. When Tampa matches the one, offer sheet type other and they will be above max cap.

We lack a 2021 3rd, so probably no shot.

Estimating based on comparables and 3rd party projections (herehere, and here):

  1. Reinhart, $6.25-7.5M, best guess $6.5M
  2. Olofsson, $4-5M bridge, best guess $4.25M

Estimating based on flat-ass guessing:

  1. Linus Ullmark, $2M-2.5M, best guess $2.4M

Maths: $10.5M-$15M, best guesses $13.15M

Note: this leaves little room to sign anyone else, but still need upgrades at LD and, if possible, G.  We might try to move an RD, such as Miller ($3.875M) or Montour ($3.85M), for an ELC LD.

Can’t see any world where Olofsson signs a bridge for more than Kubalik.

He just got 3.7.

I'm down; that'd put us about a mil below cap.  The less these three sign for, the more shoulder room we have for D and G and trades and playoff rentals.

I think Reino is going to get a 1-year or 2-year deal.  I think they want a situation where they can extend Hall if both sides want to do so, and a fat contract for Reino would likely preclude them from doing so.

A two year deal walks him to UFA, he will be traded Summer 2021 if that’s the case.

I could see a deal with Seattle happening at that point

Yes -- if they keep Hall next Summer, they trade Reino, perhaps to Seattle.  If not, they've got Reino under contract for another year and perhaps extend him at that point.  In the meantime, a 2-year deal gives Reino more security than a 1-year deal.

Sabres have $6.546M with which to sign RFA Olofsson and make other moves.

They carry about $3.488M in potential performance bonuses, but this doesn't have to impact this year unless Kevyn Adams decides to be conservative.  On performance bonuses:

Quote

Performance Bonuses

There are two types of performances bonuses available*, each capped at different amounts and restricted to different benchmarks the player has to meet to earn them. While signing bonuses can appear on any contract, performance bonuses are restricted to ELCs and 35+ contracts. How performance bonuses work in terms of cap management is the same, no matter what sort they are or which contract they appear on.

*There is also a games played bonus, which is technically separate, but for our purposes here, that doesn’t matter.

In the normal course of things, you ignore the performance bonuses on a contract. They aren’t added into the cap hit that is calculated from the 23-man roster, and generally we forget they exist. But there are many ways in which they factor into a team’s plans.

Bonus Cushion

Theoretically, on day one of the season, every performance bonus on every contract for a player on the 23-man roster could be earned through the season. Assuming they are, the total of these potential bonuses must fit inside the available cap space the team has.

That’s not very practical, however, and most bonuses don’t get earned, so the CBA allows a bonus cushion, or 7.5 per cent of the upper limit of the salary cap. That is $5,962,500 $6.1125M this season. A teams’ potential bonuses need to fit inside the cap and/or the cushion at all times. For most teams, this cushion is big enough to allow them to operate right at the cap. Exceeding the bonus cushion is the same thing as exceeding the salary cap and carries the same penalties.

Bonus Rollover

Performance bonuses count against the salary cap as soon as they are earned. If there’s cap space to absorb them, great, we never need speak of it again unless you’re a luxury car salesperson, and you have the player’s phone number.

If the end of year cap space isn’t enough to absorb the bonuses actually earned, then the excess is rolled into the next year and counts against the salary cap, eating into the space just like retained salary or an overpaid player in the press box does.

This season the Leafs have $2,550,000 Sabres have $1.4875M from last season counting against the cap like a phantom character guy doing some eight minute games on the fourth line.

He likes Risto also.  Questionable judgement?

Jury is still very much out on coach. That has to be obvious - he has one, losing season to his name here, so far.

Some things to like, we'll have a pretty solid idea after this season.

Raised expectations.

Can somebody PLEASE explain why everybody here keeps saying that Irwin is a RD?

According to HockeyDB and according to the Sabres he shoots left.  Also, images of him all show him holding a Lefty hockey stick.

So wtf does EVERYBODY keep listing him as a RD?
