One of my favorites ever. Not just because he was a Sabre. If not for Gretzky he would have been the mvp in the western conference for several years. Even when he was here, he had Patty L in front of him. What a duo that was.

And if he had a few MVPs under his belt, the trade may very well have never happened.

Why isn’t this thread pinned? He was one of the best to wear our Blue & Gold.

But, man. This is terrible news. Condolences to his family from me and Mrs. CC.

I was just thinking back on that 92-93 team and how much the league and the Sabres have changed since then.  That team had 4 hall of famers... and Mogilny (don't get me started).  That included 2 HoF goalies.  They had also traded away HoF Dave Andrechuk in exchange for Fuhr.  It's amazing how much more talent you could assemble prior to the expansion boom of the 2000s.

My favorite Jet of all time.

A local DJ said today that only #99 scored more points than Ducky from '81-'94. Not sure if it is true but it wouldn't surprise me one bit. Carried the team on his shoulders for the first couple of years. His first year here the team improved by 48 points!!!

Hawerchuk won the faceoff in his own zone in this 1987 Canada Cup game and went on to help Lemieux score the goal!

My sister died this April from cancer. She was 57, as well.

***** cancer.

Everytime something like this is announced it really gets me thinking ... I will be 56 in early October and there is a history of cancer in my family.

Think positively my friend.  But I definitely know what you mean.

I've had 2 close friends die in the last year from cancer!

Enjoy each day while you have them.  None of us has any guarantees in life.

RIP to Dale.  I just found out about this today.

Really bad news.
