Zamboni Posted August 5, 2020 Report Posted August 5, 2020 There’s something to be said about a comedian who can be very funny and “clean“... it’s very hard to do… And the master of that would be Bill Cosby. for me… Dave Chapelle is up there. I think an alternate list would be the best comedians who were born After 1970 ? Quote

The opposite end of the spectrum, have you heard Anthony Jeselnik? Quote

Drag0nDan Posted August 5, 2020 Report Posted August 5, 2020 I know he's like taboo now, but i always found louis CK to be really funny. Willing to cross lines, cynical, self-loathing Quote

He's a great stand-up comedian. Watch any of his specials on the streaming services. Well worth it. No particular order, mind you. Edited August 5, 2020 by BuffalOhio Quote

I also agree with the Bill Burr and Brian Regan sentiment This guy is hilarious, I love Sam Morrill Quote

I think you forgot Lenny Bruce, Bob Hope and Mark Twain. If I hadn't seen 4 of these 5 in person myself I say, "Christ are you Old!" Here are my top five: 1.) Jerry Seinfeld 2.) Chris Rock 3.) George Carlin 4.) Sarah Silverman 5.) Louis CK (I saw him at small club in NYC back in 1991 - met him after his set.) honorable mentions: a.) Sam Kinison - Died too early, but had some great HBO specials. b.) Sebastian Maniscalco - probably my favorite to watch today. c.) John Mulaney - too young to be considered great, but definitely rising fast. 1 Quote
Taro T Posted August 5, 2020 Report Posted August 5, 2020 (edited) Hard to limit it to just 5. (In no particular order) Bob Newhart George Carlin Richard Pryor Kathleen Madigan Sam Kinnison Chris Rock Dennis Miller Dennis Leary Rita Rudner Jeff Allen Mike Birbiglua Ralphy May Mitch Hedberg Brian Regan Steven Wright Rodney Dangerfield Jay Leno Russell Peters Jackie Mason Chandra Pierce Jeannie Robertson (Sure a few favorites were missed, but that's a start.) George Lopez Dana Carvey Jon Lovitz Edit: also Phil Hartman Ron White Don Rickles Jonathan Winters & 1 of the absolute greatest Robin Williams Edited August 5, 2020 by Taro T Quote
In The Buff Posted August 5, 2020 Report Posted August 5, 2020 (edited) Besides from the other names on this list. Katt Williams had some pretty funny standups back in the day. And from my childhood days i'd toss in Gallagher. He was pretty witty & he liked to smash things with sledgehammers. The sledgehammering alone gets him on my list haha These 2 still wouldn't be Top 5 imo... Just other names added that havent been mentioned yet Edited August 5, 2020 by In The Buff Quote

Weave Posted August 5, 2020 Report Posted August 5, 2020 Dangerfield and Rickles at the top for me. Carlin, Pryor, and Robin Williams round out the GOAT list. Ralphy May is damned funny but I feel the depth of subject matter he works with is lacking. Newhart, it seems like he should be in there somewhere. Comedy has changed over the ages. I have a definite preference for the style, subjects, and delivery of the old timers. 2 Quote
drnkirishone Posted August 5, 2020 Report Posted August 5, 2020 John mulaney is one of the best currently working and every special he does raises him on the all time list. Bob Rubin is an interesting one. I had never heard of him until the new Patton Oswald special on netflix. Patton convinced them to include a small set from Bob Rubin as a 2nd episode Quote
steveoath Posted August 5, 2020 Report Posted August 5, 2020 1. George Carlin 2. Eddie Izzard Honorable mentions Bill Burr (although "paper tiger" wasn't as strong as earlier stuff). Kevin Bridges Limmy Tom Segura Tim Minchin Quote
