DarthEbriate Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 Per local radio, kraken created the most buzz on social media, despite the Sockeyes winning the Seattle Times poll. And from the introduction -- octopus is really the angle being played on kraken (so a Nordic kraken), not the Clash of the Titans titan kraken. This works with the very, very large Swedish population of Seattle's origins. 1 Quote
darksabre Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 I think ultimately they played it safe and that's okay. The colors, the jersey, the name, the logos, are all fine. Not exceptionally good or bad. Just...fine. I think they'll have fun with being called the Kraken, just like Vegas has fun with being the Knights. Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 Meh on non-plural names. Double meh on using a lettermark as a primary logo. Triple meh on doubling down on teal in the color combination, as it looks real roller hockey. But at least it's an original mix. Eh, ***** it. Let 'em run with it and have fun with it. If it sucks, their marketing department will pivot, it's fine. 1 minute ago, DarthEbriate said: Per local radio, kraken created the most buzz on social media, despite the Sockeyes winning the Seattle Times poll. Jerseys could also use a tweak, but that's easy. Quote
LGR4GM Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 I think the S should be a shoulder patch or secondary logo and they need a big old octopus as a primary logo but you know what, for 650million or whatever it was, you do you. Quote
DarthEbriate Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 (edited) Rum sales increase 5000% in Seattle! (not a fact, yet) Edited July 23, 2020 by DarthEbriate 1 Quote
DarthEbriate Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 Also, for what it's worth, octopi are some of the coolest animals in the world. The octopus in the Seattle Aquarium used to escape, get into the main tank, and attack the sharks. They're pretty sweet. And if octopi took down Galloping Gertie (not true, it was wind and design) --- that's pretty nice. And they make gardens! Note: the S logo is the homage to the Seattle Metropolitans. 1 Quote
Zamboni Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 Cool name cool logo good for them. I like the Anchor the best. Quote
SwampD Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 Do they go with the long scene when they enter the ice or just the short version? Quote
msw2112 Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 I agree with others - I really like the anchor and think it would make for a great primary logo, but I get the "S" tribute to the original team. I don't love the name - I like the story behind it, but it just sounds silly. Overall, I think they did a pretty good job. Quote
DarthEbriate Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 Can I just say that I hope Seattle's hockey club gets as useful and nice a fan forum as Sabrespace? Quote
miles Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 i dont like to be negative, but... everything about this is terrible. the colors: garbage the logo: stupid and boring the name: really silly but, what do i know, i follow the sabres 1 Quote
LGR4GM Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 For fun... or torture, compare this launch to what we got for the 50th anniversary of our team. One was a professionally handled well planned out event that is currently ongoing. The other was a hodgepodge of screw ups with no overall concept (concept should have been easy) all while looking like the most incompetent team in the league. 1 1 Quote

We got the objectively better jersey, and already had the better logo and name, though. And that counts for a lot. 4 Quote

The easy part should be the media coordination and unveiling aspect of it Quote
That Aud Smell Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 Fun name. I like what they've done with their marks and content. Like others, I think that the "S" is sort of weird as a primary logo, but there's enough other stuff in there for it to work. Quote

One thing awesome about the kraken. they are one of the few teams in all sports that dont end in an S Edited July 23, 2020 by miles Quote

IKnowPhysics Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 Also the Sabres, with the upcoming unveiling of the royal blues, get an immediate redo on the social media whathaevyou. So there's opportunity there. I admittedly care more about what the jersey looks like than the twattersphere, though. Quote
LabattBlue Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 So what are the chances of them having a higher point total than the Sabres in their first year? Quote
Taro T Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 So, because they couldn't decide on which shoulder patch to dump, they decided to make 1 the primary logo? Bold choice there, Cotton. But personally, would've done the Swamp Cats dueling shoulder logos & used a real primary logo as, ya know, the primary logo. Quote
SwampD Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 (edited) The negative space in the S being a tentacle is kinda cool. Edited July 23, 2020 by SwampD 2 1 Quote
