Our fanbase, and every other fanbase of teams with GM's that "weren't smart enough to beat that offer," will collectively lose our collective marbles over the vast unfairness of it all. Hopefully St. Louis isn't one of the winner's of TB's "we're buying a new boat, want the old one cheap buddy" sale because had the Sabres still had O'Reilly maybe Buffalo could've gotten one of those boats that just needs some new upholstery but still run like new. THAT would stink. When they go anywhere elsewhere, this guy will give the old 'eh shrug' as they weren't waiving their NTC to come to the Sabres at this point in bvn time. I agree with the spirit of this, but with the caveat that teams like St. Louis will not be where those players end up; they simply can’t afford them. Really, of the “favoured teams” only Colorado Is in a cap position to add the luxury of a declining $5 million winger. Edited July 24, 2020 by dudacek Quote

Don't forget, those other teams can be over the cap in the off season & can find ways to "fix" cap issues as well. (And, not that they ever would, but they could simply not honor the guy's NTC which is their right under the CBA & trade him if absolutely necessary. That would prevent them from ever getting this opportunity again, but ...) Let's hope you're right about the Blues. ? Quote

If GMKA can work some magic then great, but we shouldn't be giving up the most. Exactly my point. An experienced GM knows that he goes into talks with Tampa in the drivers seat, and a savvy GM does not have to give up the most in a deal with them. While Adams lacks experience we need to see him rise up to the occasion and improve this team. Edited July 25, 2020 by Pimlach 3 Quote

Or, alternatively, substitute Cirelli for Point and Mittelstadt for Cozens. Will Tampa get any better offers to solve their roster/cap problems? As a Sabre fan, would you do either deal? YES Quote

I hope there are some reasonable options out there without a NTC or our 2C next season could very well be on this team already.. Quote
