Maybe, but it wouldn’t have to fight with the heat of 19 thousand bodies, though. Quote

But was either building built with the expectation that there would be a need for game quality ice in August? Especially 180 game minutes worth of game quality ice (discounting any possibility of OT's.) Quote

If they play in Pittsburgh when the Pirates are away, I’m sure their current schedule would have to be reworked, which means everyone’s schedule has to be redone. They didn't like Buffalo because the clubhouse is too small, yet want to share an MLB park with another active team. How many clubhouses do you think PNC park has? Four? 1 Quote

Except that players hang around for a good chunk of the day getting BP in, physical therapy, etc. Sharing an MLB park may be even worse than the alleged shortcoming in Buffalo. 1 Quote

They'll be fine. The PT folks travel with the team and BP, really? That's an hour. The'll find the time. Quote

However, it seems that the players are resistant to playing in a minor league stadium because the accommodations don't satisfy them. The attached link is a 13 minute plus segment of a reporter who follows the Blue Jays talking on WGR about the issue of where they might play. Regarding the Buffalo location it is the players who are nixing the deal. That is not to say that it won't happen but it is unlikely. https://wgr550.radio.com/media/audio-channel/07-20-tsn-blue-jays-reporter-scott-mitchell My source in Buffalo also says its the players. Minor league facility, minor league town. They prefer to just be on the road. That tells me a lot about the actual Covid concern level of the players if they are willing to be on the road all the time. 1 Quote
Crusader1969 Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 I can't wrap my ahead around anyone caring where they play their games. You can't go watch, so what difference does it make? As a Canadian, I'm glad they aren't playing in Toronto. If i was in Buffalo, I'd prefer people who were in Tampa the day before not be walking around town. Quote
Brawndo Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 The Pennsylvania Department of Health refused the Blue Jays Request to play games at PNC Park. Quote

A big part of what helped the community keep the Bills was the flexibility of the footprint at RWS to make changes and that it was football only. All those multi-purpose stadiums built in the 70's were terrible for all the sports they played in them and they have all been replaced. NOT building that dome was one of the biggest blessings the city ever got. Just like Three Rivers Stadium in PGH, right? I don’t know if you’ve been through that town lately, but the location of the two replacements for TRS looks like an absolute Charlie Foxtrot. Quote

The economics of baseball with a soft salary cap would kick the hell out of the profitability of a MLB team in WNY. It'd likely force even a rich owner to downgrade payrolls and strap competitiveness. Dodgers, Cubs, Yankees, and Red Sox all spent north of $200M last year. These teams are major corporations supported by major corporations. The Bills only spent $158M AAV in 2019. It's highly unlikely that we could field a competitive MLB team that at least breaks even in profit. The silver lining - not to be overlooked - is that we have the best and biggest stadium in MiLB located in the heart of our downtown, field a competitive team (when our affiliate isn't hot trash, cough, Mets, cough), have dirt cheap tickets that make going to games extremely family friendly (as opposed to MLB-mandated ticket prices), good local food at concession stands, make a sustainable profit, and still have money left over for fireworks*. Minor league dirt piles are old-timey romantic fun, but Pilot Downtown North AmeriCare Dunn Tire Coca-Cola Sahlen Field is a true gem for sports spectatorship. Its architecture started the now continent-wide trend of modern retro-classic stadiums. *Story time: I will never, ever forget seeing a walk-off grand slam whose celebration went straight to fireworks (because Friday Night Bash). Simply awesome. Not to mention that it was big enough to hold a Billy Graham crusade back in the day. Just sayin’. Quote

That Aud Smell Posted July 24, 2020 Report Posted July 24, 2020 Haha - no sh1t? Should have known it was going this way after I read that they were talking about just playing all games on the road, and treating some of them as home games. Or maybe playing in Baltimore with a whole fleet of portable changing rooms. Quote
