Eleven Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 (edited) I needed to take some time away from the board to learn to deal more charitably with people who call me an idiot. I did need to relax for a bit. Bonus points to @Wyldnwoody44 for literally saving my life. Sorry, folks, I'm back. So...and NO CHEATING... 1. The first event at "The Aud" was: (a) a dog show (b) a hockey game (c) a political rally (d) a basketball game (e) a circus 2. Two former Sabres with "Gilbert" in their name have retired numbers. One of them is obvious. Is the other: (a) Dominik Hasek (b) Tim Horton (c) Danny Gare (d) Rick Martin (e) Pat LaFontaine (f) Rene Robert 3. Elvis "Wayne" Presley performed at the Aud how many times? (No multiple choice; it's between one and five.) 4. As long as we're on music, which artist had a posthumously-released album called "Buffalo," recorded at The Aud? (a) Johnny Cash (b) David Bowie (c) Patsy Cline (d) Frank Zappa (e) Jerry Garcia 5. When the new Arena, whatever of its many names, opened, the scoreboard fell. It *really* should have killed which team: (a) the Boston Bruins (b) the Boston Bruins (c) the Boston Bruins (d) the Philadelphia Maple-Habs (e) the Boston Bruins Edited June 15, 2020 by Eleven 1 2 1 Quote

The first 10,000,000 years were the worst. The second 10,000,000 -- they were the worst too. The third 10,000,000 -- I didn't enjoy at all. After that, I went into a bit of a decline. Addendum: zounds, that sounds a lot like being a Sabres fan this past decade... Edited June 15, 2020 by Marvin, Sabres Fan Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 @Eleven, I think I missed all the sordid details, but I missed you more. Welcome home, my friend. I will answer the questions to the best of my ability at some point soon. Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 Okay ... 1.) Either a dog show, or a basketball game ... I'm gonna say ... dog show 2.) Tim (sorry, man that's not real coffee) Horton 3.) 2 4) D ... Frankie was good. Jerry too ... truckin' up to Buffalo .......... 5) There can be only 1 reasonable answer and it's the most dastardly Bruins (still waiting for the damn Sabres to avenge Brad Friggin' Park) with an honourable mention to the equally dastardly Flyers. How'd I do, chief? Quote

Eleven Posted June 15, 2020 Author Report Posted June 15, 2020 According to Wikipedia, the first event at The Aud was a political rally for Wendell Willkie. You can look to 0311's answers for the rest of the correct ones. Quote

However, I do remember a comic strip in there that was in every issue. The one after the Jumbotron crash had the thing crumpled on the ice with Ted Nolan screaming into the sky, “YOU MISSED ME, MUCKLER!” As for all of those name changes, maybe the next one should be Red Jacket Arena. Put in some local history instead of “corporate naming rights”. Edited June 15, 2020 by Crosschecking Quote
