Stoner Posted May 24, 2020 Report Posted May 24, 2020 (edited) Kinda had it with all the Sabres History Porn. So... I will never forget the new arena's roof opening on Eichel Retirement Night and Jack's Super Yacht being lowered onto the ice. (OK, mini Super Yacht.) Jessie Pegula did it up right! She has been an incredible owner. Edited May 25, 2020 by PASabreFan 1 2 Quote
LabattBlue Posted May 24, 2020 Report Posted May 24, 2020 (edited) As we descend upon 2030’s, the Sabres have now missed the playoffs 20 years in a row....and this is after the playoffs expanded to 24 teams every year...after the coronavirus 24 team playoff. ? thewookie1 Posted May 25, 2020 Report Posted May 25, 2020 Post: 6/25/46: With Dahlin announcing he'll retire recently I felt we should look back on his incredible career. The 20's started with the whole COVID-19 thing and missing that expanded playoffs must have seriously ticked off some players as we saw afterward. 20-21 and 21-22, were fun but accomplished little besides playoff berths and 3 rounds of playoffs. 22-23 however was a different story, they seemed to find what they were missing and would run on an incredible 20 of 25 run with the young UPL and more elder Ullmark backstopping. The playoffs we got lucky with Detroit's Larkin getting hurt in the final week of the season leading to their quick demise. Toronto was a tad tougher but Eichel being their kryptonite ended the series in 6 games. The Conference Finals were a doozy with the Sabres matching up with a Rangers team that had only lost once thus far in their playoff run. However at the end of 7 games only the Sabres remained in the East. The West had been a bloody battle through their three rounds; while the Blues made it out at the end, the Oilers - Flames series was by far the most entertaining. The Sabres were healthier than the Blues as well as younger whereas the Blues held the experience and home ice edge. I may have lost a few years on that series but we had finally done it, winning in 6 games with 5 going to OT. Ironic how Ryan Johnson would be the guy with the GWG to end it all. Kyle Okposo walked away with a ring and 2 goals in the Cup Finals a very happy man. 23-24 and 24-25 were plagued with injuries but somehow we snuck in both times only to lose. 25-26 we played great and made it to the Conference Finals only to lose to Detroit who went on to win it all. 26-27 and 27-28 should be renamed the Buffalo years. Winning 2 Stanley Cups back to back and our 2nd Super Bowl of the decade was great! Not to mention denying Edmonton and Seattle was rather fun in the Finals. 28-29 was a slow year between departures, injuries and just sheer exhaustion 29-30 was only noteworthy due to the Vancouver ending the Cup Drought in Canada in a n epic 7 game series with the Islanders. I'm glad they finally won, at least there wasn't a riot this time around. The memories of the 2030's Sabres teams can be remembered mostly as the falling action of the mid to late 20's. The 2030-31 Sabres would win their 4th Cup in 8 seasons, knocking off the LA Kings in 6 games. It was nice to see McDavid not only snub the Leafs but join us for his 1st career ring. The Sabres would remain competitive throughout the mid 30's but would make it to another final until 2038-39 which would be remembered for certain. The prior offseason Sabres legend Jack Eichel hung up his skates and chose to go into coaching his younger sons; partially due to a nagging knee injury he had sustain the prior season. However the 38 year old Rasmus Dahlin, thought to have become the greatest Sabres defenseman, and potentially Top 5 all time wasn't anywhere close to being done. With only one other prior teammate, Dylan Cozens who had been in Calgary and Washington the past 6 years, returned to be a vet 3rd liner. The Sabres were a strange mix of guys under 23 with 4 players over 34. However they found ways to win, Dahlin tied his career high with 88 points and seemed to will the team into the playoffs. Again, come playoff time Dahlin lead his team to series win after series win with the Cup Finals being decided by his 10th goal of the playoffs. Only thing that made it any better was us beating Dallas all these years later. God do I wish we could go back to their primes, missing the playoffs 4 years in a row isn't fun; granted it is way better than when we had drafted Dahlin...... 3 4 Quote

She has been an incredible owner. She has! After the unforeseen death of Terry, and Kim’s unusually fast courtship and marriage to Timothee Chalamet shocked “One Buffalo” fans. Things seemed darkest after the TMZ exposé “Kougar Kim” revealed the predatory nature of the the recently widowed Billionairess. Fortunately the Former Tennis Pro showed her moxy by firing Jason Botterill (long over due) in 2029 as her first order of business. The Sabres and their NHL roster record 17 top 10 picks went on to win the Stanley Cup the first year with Jessie at the helm of the organization. 1 Quote

Marvin Posted May 25, 2020 Report Posted May 25, 2020 (edited) Great thread topic. I knew we were in for a really good decade when President Kim Pegula saved @PASabreFan by flying him to Gates after his heart attack from watching her demolish the Skyway with one punch to make room for the new Hall of Justice. It was then that I realised that a our owner had been hiding her super powers during the entire 2028 campaign. Edited May 25, 2020 by E4 ... Ke2 Needed to praise PA for his inventiveness. Quote

bob_sauve28 Posted May 25, 2020 Report Posted May 25, 2020 I was a little board this morning. Hope you enjoy. The 2030's were too much for me. The genetically altered players coming into the league really changed the game. The wealthier teams buying up all the labs that “made” these players really tilted the playing surface. I was happy at first when Kim Pagula fought the NHL in the courts to get the first roboplayer instated in the league. "Our team has no chance against the Rangers and Flyers and Bruins with their Frankenstein players, it's time we are allowed roboplayers." But then it started getting a little strange and embarrassing. Most people thought it was a joke but Kim was all fired up. She continued to bash the league for everything on twitter, taking special aim at the "No-Goal" controversy claiming the league has had it out for the Sabres for decades and THAT'S why the Sabres have never won the cup. She was on tv as much as possible pushing her roboplayer views. "They are more human than people realize!" The league was so angry with her that, led by the Rangers, Flyers and Bruins, they made an ill-considered rule that stated clearly that roboplayers would not be allowed in the league and if something had not been born or did not have a beating heart, it was not a hockey player. Lawsuits followed that surprisingly went in Kim's favor. People were dumbfounded it went this far. In late March of 2038 a Federal Court Judge in Buffalo decided to hear the case. Buffalo was electric with news of the event. Kim P. held a rally in Lafayette Square to rally the team which was fighting for its life to make the playoffs for the first time in the decade, led by Sergei Ovechkin, son of Alex. Thousands showed up in the square and roared in enthusiasm. Kim P., who was now the most famous woman in Buffalo History--she had also led the creation of the Greater Buffalo Metro Area, which united almost all of WNY--then went to the Mic and spoke to the instantly silent crowd that hung on her every word. "We are tired of being cheated. Our time is now. These people, these corrupt people running our league need a wake up call! Let me tell you about the new M-5 player Google has just released to the Sabre’s Organization. The corrupt elites say it will hurt people. This is a lie! The M-5 doesn't even throw body checks, it just seeks out open ice and makes great passes. It only makes the other players on our team better. The 150 MPH slap Shop is something the M-5 doesn't even use that much!" The crowd roared in approval. "And I want to let you all in on a secret," she continued. "Our M-5 does have a real beating heart!" The crowd looked confused at this point but cheered. "I want you all to join me Saturday, as my special guest at the arena for our special birthing ceremony for our M-5. We will make this happen! Will you join me?" "YES!!!!!" "Will you tell your friends" "Yes!!!" "Will you say it or will you scream it?" "Yelling and screaming" That Saturday was a day that will be long remembered in Buffalo. A feeling of almost religious fanaticism filled the air as fan streamed into the arena. An Evangelical Fervor pulsed through the areanba. The lights were lowered and a cathedral like atmosphere was created. The national anthems were sung and then Kim P. came out and in low tones spoke to the crowd like a mother speaks to her confused child. "We come here today, my friends, to welcome a new soul into the world," she said solemnly. She was the lone figure on the ice highlighted by a spot light. Raising her voice slightly she continued, "We are her to witness a miracle, a new era that Buffalo will lead the world in, and you are here to watch it." Suddenly the lights came on and the Sabre’s players were all in a circle with their arms outstretched touching the M-5. The crowd gasped at first and then started to buzz. Kim P. picked up on the emotion and shocked everyone with a wild shriek that silenced the crowd. Holding her arms out above her and motioning frantically to someone somewhere a cloud of fog suddenly filled the ice and hid everyone. The lights went down, organ music began to play and the lights began to focus on one spot, where, out of the fog skated the M-5 into the light while Kim P. began singing in a hypnotic voice, “Where there is light there is life, pray onto all to respect the birth of the son. “Where there is light there is life, pray onto all to respect the birth of the son. Where there is light there is life, pray onto all to respect the birth of the son.” The words appeared on the scoreboard and everyone chanted along. Everyone was mesmerized by the affair. The lights came on and the M-5 skated around the arena as Kim led the crowd to scream and yell like never before. In a scene which some people present—myself included—would remember as kind of scary and unnerving, the crowd broke into wild hysterics with people just screaming in ecstasy. Many fans just broke down in hysterical weeping and wailing. This crowd spilled out of the arena and spread out through downtown where they stayed on the streets all night. We learned later that the M-5, soon to be named Sabre 1, had had a squirrel’s heart placed in it so that it still beat. It had a heart and had been “born” according to Kim Pagula. But would Sabre 1 play against the Bruins and their genetically altered lineup in round one of the playoffs? 2 Quote
Stoner Posted May 28, 2020 Author Report Posted May 28, 2020 It was a dark and stormy night on the bayou of East Texas, alongside a lonely old dirt road said to be the route that doritos smugglers used in the 1800s, but I digress. A middle-aged bicyclist saw up ahead a young man squatting next to a broken down Schwinn. The man was wearing a fur coat that was practically molting in the heat and humidity. He didn't appear to be wearing anything else. "You OK there, young fella?" When the young man turned to face the rider, the older man was aghast. His face was white as a ghost. "Drew? Drew Stafford? What the hell are you doing out here? And why are you wearing that fur coat from lockerroom celebrations in 2009-2010?" Lightning sizzled across the sky in a jagged bolt as an armadillo let loose a bark in the distance. "It's all I have left from those days, sir. I'm broke. Is there any chance I could stay with you for the night, until I get myself back on my feet in the mornin'?" Something about the way Drew said "mornin'," putting on his best Texas accent, drew Doohickie in. "Sure, son. This isn't a tandem bike, but you're welcome to jump aboard." 2 Quote
