Reveal hidden contents Pittsburgh had a live penguin mascot, on mini-skates, and said penguin died because the team didn't keep it's/his/her nest properly. Interesting. Speaking of prematurely dying mascots. Brings up why Conn Smythe chose to rename his franchise the Maple Leafs. He wanted something that represented their culture and character. What better than something that's functioning well when training camp opens, becomes awe inspiring in October, is dying by November, gets buried all winter, and is wet, tattered waste by the time playoffs rolls around, and has been composted by the time the Stanley Cup is awarded? ? Pretty sure, he chose wisely. And, when the fans see the new crop of leaves they think 'this year is going to be different.' ? (And to PA and all the others who want to chime in with 'what about ...'; this is about the Loafs, not the team we normally discuss on this board.) Edited April 26, 2020 by Taro T 1 2 Quote
Formerly Allan in MD Posted April 26, 2020 Report Posted April 26, 2020 I'd rather discuss teams that have expired prematurely. Quote
