Just realized, the Sabres moved celebrating their 50th Anniversary up to this season from '20-'21 which would've been the actual 50th season played (due to there being no '04-'05 season) and October '20 actually being 50 years after October '70 because they were worried about losing part or all of that season to a lockout. But there was labor peace and the CBA didn't get terminated early. So, it's still very possible that there will be a full '20-'21 season (though it may be delayed slightly). And the Sabres expected to get the full 82 games this year to fully celebrate the 50 years. But now this season is almost certainly getting cut short. So, even when they do what they think is the right thing - avoiding a half season lockout that the 25th anniversary season suffered, it ends up the wrong thing. They really are the George Costanza of the hockey world. They brought in Bowman and ended up the only team he coached that didn't make it to the SCFs. They spent like crazy (by then standards, having the 3rd highest payroll in the league) & still couldn't win a game in the 2nd round continuing a decade + trend; then sold off all the name players but LaFontaine & Hasek and started towards their 2nd successful era and their most successful era playoff wise. They fired the GM of the year & effectively fired the Coach of the Year and brought in a milquetoast GM and a former Sabre that had an undistinguished coaching career & ended up in the SCFs 2 seasons after the purge. They go out and sign who was supposed to be the 2nd best FA available (Leino) only to start down their biggest stretch of futility ever. Certainly there's more examples. Maybe the buffalo on the new unis for the upcoming season should have a baldspot? 1 Quote
North Buffalo Posted April 18, 2020 Report Posted April 18, 2020 Actually may have been a bit of good luck... Cozens on board next year maybe a 2C and a maturing goaltender situation plus decent top 10 in draft without having actually acknowledge crap season... its a doo over! Quote
