My feelings exactly.  Everything now is political.  Buying votes, scare tactics, etc.  Is there any Truth anymore??  At least 10% of the US does not need stimulus and would deny it if were possible.  Throwing money at a problem rarely fixes it.  The hypocrisy.  Many of the same folks that  say "We won't stand for a socialist society" are the same ones cashing the stimulus checks, social security checks, disability checks, unemployment checks as soon as they get them.  And the farm bailouts.   And the small business bailouts. That is socialism . Pick a side!  Do you want government support or not??  If you want government support, fine.  I'm OK with that.  I think the government should help in times of trouble.  But,  don't  cry about government overreach.  And I ain't no saint, I'll cash my stimulus check.  I will be donating the whole check to a presidential candidate's campaign.    It may not help, but my conscience will be clean.

In all seriousness, great post.

We already filed our taxes before Mnuchin announced the 3 month deadline extension. So, not only did we receive both our federal and state refunds, we also received the stimulus. Since I'm able to work, we're not spending all of it.

“Picking sides” has led us to this mess. People’s sides and ideologies are chosen over picking the best solution to the problem and disregarding prior experience.

YUP!!!

I'm glad I shed that skin. I'm not putting it back on me. As I told Tondas, we just need the unadulterated facts. Ringling Brothers is out of business, and we're not here for the narrative circus.

Right around the time that these checks were about to come out, I started getting bombed with scam phone calls, at least 3 per day.  Thankfully that number's gone back down to zero now.  I never answer them, but I'm sure that the timing was no coincidence.  Sometimes I wonder how much better the world would be if these folks pointed that effort in a meaningful direction.

I haven't received a federal tax refund since 2013. I have to pay every year. I have no idea if I'm eligible for a stimulas check and haven't looked into it. Anyone else in the same boat, and if so, should we expect any stimulas?

You'll get it without applying.

You should be eligible. If you haven't provided information for direct deposit you should receive a check in the mail.

Like you I haven't received a refund since 2017, i provided the direct deposit info last Friday. Haven't seen anything yet.

It depends on your income level.  I don’t remember the number, but above a certain income you don’t qualify.  Whether or not you paid taxes at return time or received a refund doesn’t matter.

Except that if you didn't get a refund you have to provide the IRS with your direct deposit info. They won't use your bank info. from any payments made.

My understanding is that they will still mail you a check.

I got mine for the first 4 week period.  Thanks, Canadian taxpayers.

Now I am using *strategery* (can't believe I'm quoting 'that guy') to make sure I get it in 3 of 7 remaining eligability periods.  I am also making sure that I will not have to pay income tax on it, since it is taxable (what a joke) here in Canada.

You didn't hear any of this from me, eh!!

That is correct and it will even bear at least one signature.

I'm assuming mine is in the mail...if it comes at all.  Filing as self-employed I never get a refund. Anything owed to me gets rolled into the next tax year.

I just found out our taxes weren't filed until this week as my preparer (FIL) was waiting on some documents to file. Is that gonna have an impact on when I get my Stimulus $$$.  My wife says no but I'm more than a little suspicious.

No, it won't effect it.  Know people that haven't filed yet this year that have gotten direct deposits and also people that did file this year that have received them already.

The key to when you get them seems to be whether they have your bank account info or not.   If they have to get an account #, or worse, send a paper check then there will be a delay.

I mentioned it up-thread that I was closing in on a bonus and I’ve gotta share somewhere that I JUST HIT IT! I know it’s not very related to the topic at hand but I’m very happy right now. I’ve been busting my ass since working from home and it’s good to see it paying off.

There's hope for some of you. The Get My Payment application finally allowed me to enter my direct deposit info.

So I'm making phat pannies and rolling up five dollar bills to snort the powdered sugar. You in, Neo?

Well, you're married.

Single people get the stimulus based on making an adjusted gross of less than $75k, which gets pro-rated for people making $75k to $100k.  If you're married and file jointly, the thresholds are double:  Full stimulus up to AGI of $150k, pro-rated from $150k to $200k.

Not sure about that. It's based on your 2018 return if you haven't filed 2019 yet. If anyone is waiting for a paper check, those are being sent out lowest income first. Not bragging, but Imma be waiting a loooooong time.

I have a theory that they're paying everyone who's filed their 2019 before they bounce back to the 2018 returns.  Since income generally goes up, the government pays out less for people who get pro-rated (or no) stimulus checks if they use the 2019 return.

I don't think that's the case. I know a few people who haven't filed yet, but already got their stimulus payments.

Well there goes that theory.

Depending on how they calculate income, I may or may not get it.

Adjusted Gross Income.  I did better than I otherwise would have because I'm paying quite a bit into my 401k, which comes right off AGI.

I got mine Monday.

As far as what I'm doing with the money?  Buying new windows for my home.  We were ready to pull the trigger on most of the windows but held off when Covid-19 reared its ugly head.  I'm holding off on the windows until I have confidence that my job and my wife's job survive the pandemic.  There are no indications to the contrary, but I'd just like to keep the extra liquidity at the moment since it's hard to say how long this virus will be killing the economy.

It will be a stimulus to the local economy when I eventually do get the windows though.  The company that installed the first few (that I plan to use again) sources their windows from a company that just built a plant literally one mile from my house.

Your theory is incorrect.
