This Covid thing came out of the blue for all intents and purposes, and it's weighed on me more than I would like it to. When I say this, I don't mean the actual virus itself, but the reaction in the world to it. The hoarding, greed, lack of thinking and foresight, the selfishness, finger pointing, racism, social media attention seeking, etc. I can handle the medical side of it, that's what I was born and trained to do, it's why I put myself into the 3rd world without a second though, and conversing with my 2md family and kiddos from Uganda today, it made my heart very heavy. Were sitting here in the 1st world acting like asshats and they are in just as much trouble there with almost zero chance to fight back and I can't get down there to help. I go to the hospital run by business people, ill prepared, and people are still showing up entitled and ignoring guidelines. Meanwhile my heart breaks for a culture that does whatever it can to survive. Sure, it's nice all these gestures around NYC and etc, but the negatives I've witnessed from this pandemic have far outweighed the good. I've been trying to avoid most media, social media, news, etc but it's literally impossible, especially since I work in this field. This last couple of weeks has been tough on everyone, apologies for the venting, but I feel this is a place that I can and others may understand a bit. I'm close to the edge of resigning and starting a new career, financially it may not work, but it's more on the forefront of my mind than ever before and Covid has really pushed that lingering thought to the foreground. I'm just tired. It’s ok to vent. Everyone needs to from time to time. You are stronger than you may realize. You can do this! Focus on the patient care only. And not anything else. The other stuff, doesn’t matter nearly as much as patient care. They need you. Vent daily if you need to blow off steam. ?? 1

I'm just tired. Wow. I hear ya. It's not just you; it's been hard on all of us. We have taken so many things for granted that we have become spoiled and most of us don't seem to know what to do. It's no wonder why we feel so arrogantly entitled! ATST, even if some of us disagree with each other over some things, we all have to admit that there's a really intelligent crowd on SS - which is more than I can say about most of the social media outlets. The stupidity of the irrational imbeciles has definitely shown itself. They don't know a thing about thinking critically. Having said that, you sound like you love the medical profession. Don't let a bunch of idiots ruin it for you. Also, this isn't going to last forever. The Spanish influenza didn't. I do have one question for you: Who's in charge? 1

Can I pick up anything for you? Are those gloves hard to come by now? I have a giant box of them from a caulk project a while back. And if you have some really wide fingers, you can always cover each of them individually with another latex product.

Well as for the last part, I've been studying Buddhism ever since I spent time with the monks in Thailand. I do believe in a higher power, just not quite there yet to a personal answer on this journey. I do appreciate the words of encouragement from everyone, and I wish all the best through this.

Wyldnwoody44 Posted April 1, 2020 Report Posted April 1, 2020 Just now, SDS said: I’m not sure how your love of hockey fights jives with Buddhism. I’ll need to read up. ? It doesn't really jive, but then again i said I'm studying it, not devout ? I also know a lot of other religions that don't practice what they preach, another topic for another discussion.

Ok, seriously: I wish that certain media sites would lift their paywall restrictions for COVID coverage. The Buffalo News doesn't get much right, but it got that right. I'm pretty sure that WSJ can afford to make that article available. A similarly restricted Washington Post article today suggests that Buffalo is about to get hit HARD. The entire article is about Buffalo, but we can't read it. (It is copy/pasted on reddit for anyone who wants to look.) Meanwhile, ABC reports that 1400 NYPD have tested positive, which reflects Dr. Smith's comment that 15% of NYC first responders are hit. I read somewhere--don't remember where; it was two days ago--that NYC is peaking and I hope that's right. "Let Me Clear My Throat" would indicate one example. Cuomo is saying the apex won't be for another month.

Indabuff Posted April 1, 2020 Author Report Posted April 1, 2020 I know all of you on the front line are getting burned out and I couldn't imagine what you are going through. I don't have to remind you that what you do is one of the most paramount undertakings one can shoulder in life but know that everyone is behind you. We're all depending on you. My wife and kids are depending on you. I'm depending on you. Keep punching this ***** in the mouth. 1

But Russo still isn’t sure whether Buffalo — or other similarly sized cities including Cleveland and Pittsburgh — will see a “worst-case scenario.” Those three cities, Russo said, may benefit from less density and mass transportation use when compared to New York. But he worries residents in those cities have also been less compliant with stay-at-home orders. “This is not just a public health experiment, this is also a social experiment,” Russo said. I’m hoping this holds true 1

I had asked about how asymptomatic people spread it when the CDC has always said it's spread through respiratory droplets when someone coughs or sneezes. BINGO: (For those who don't want to click, they're saying it can be spread by talking or merely breathing). The evidence of aerosolization is growing. Folks, beware those enclosed spaces with poor ventilation even if no person is still around. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/02/health/aerosol-coronavirus-spread-white-house-letter/index.html

I am shocked they haven't staged a mass walk out around the country to force them to get them the proper PPE, like sveral month supply based on how much is being used currently on a daily basis plus a huge surplus...it's literally their lives at risk, and I wouldn't be risking mine for ANY job where I was put into harms way in that manner.... pastajoe Posted April 2, 2020 Report Posted April 2, 2020 Received a phone call yesterday from my family in Buffalo. My uncle passed away from the virus, he was 87. My cousin couldn’t contact him so he went over to my uncle’s house. He found him unconscious on Saturday, and he passed away Wednesday. They couldn’t see him to say goodbye. Can’t have any service, and he’s being cremated. My cousin and his wife are now in 14 day quarantine. Out of 10 siblings, my 89 year old mother is the last one left. 5
