That’s putting it mildly. That garbage has absolutely no place here. I’m amazed the post is still here.

At first I thought TLDR. Then it blew up in everybody's faces, which then made me read it. And then that link to the History Channel that posited theories with some highly conspicuous gaps.

I have to give Scotty credit: that's one of the tallest tin foil hats I've seen and read. Wow. That was a doozie.

Many of them are in fact, interesting reads Huck. Something I find myself asking over and over again is why do these global pandemics seem to consistently appear from out of the Wuhan to Hong Kong central China Corridor since 2003, yet, before that year, there is nothing I can find on these type of virus's on any serious note. To myself in any event, that is sending red flags up all over the place in my mind. I'm not saying these aren't random events, but in all of these cases, there is some circumstantial evidence to warrant further investigation of the situation. Something's not adding up here IMHO.

Unfortunately, there are too many people who latch on to conspiracy theories as if they're 100% truth. I'm with this guy:

The most irritating part in all of this are the rumors and lies that follow the trail of a pandemic.

So I stopped at the Flying J truck stop in Carlisle, PA to heat up lunch. Another trucker comes up to me, starts talking about "this virus bulls***", and then he proceeds to tell me that he heard from another driver that "they're talking about shutting all the trucks down". My skeptical suspicions arose. "Where did he hear that from?! The people need us right now!" He appeared to tacitly agree.

Caveat: not being political. Unless we all hear that straight from the powers that be, you will get your food. I'm on my way back from delivering processed chicken to the Wegmans DC in Gates.

Addendum: I've been dispatched to reload and go back there.

Do you think you’ll need all that extra space?

Buffalo General took a 30 bed surgical unit and converted it to a Covid Ward. They also built a wall to separate a portion of the MICU for cases.

They have restricted visitors to one per patient and everyone entering the building at any Kaleida or Catholic Health System Building is subject to a temperature check and screening questions.

At BGH one specific hospitalist group is taking all Covid Patients and it’s not my group. This is to minimize the potential of spread other patients.

Unfortunately for me, I’m rotating to South Buffalo Mercy next week where we are seeing Covid Patients.

In response to the various complaints about bias and censorship:

- I deleted 3 posts yesterday -- one that was explicitly anti-Obama, one that was anti-Trump administration and one that wasn't partisan in nature but belonged in the politics club.  So I don't think there was any bias in the selection or execution of post deletion.

- The reason I deleted those posts is that before doing so I had said no less than 7 times in 3 days that political posts need to go in the politics club.  The statement seemed to be falling on deaf ears and sometimes it's quicker to just delete.  There was certainly no intent to censor anyone.

- Scotty's post from outer space has now been deleted.  For those keeping partisan score of deletions, that's 2 anti-Obama deletions, 1 anti-Trump and 1 non-partisan deletion.

- It didn't occur to me to delete Scotty's post originally simply because it was so whacked out.  In any case that has been remedied.

- Bottom line:  this thread is for discussion of the virus -- NOT for political discussion.  That is what the politics club is for.  I don't think anyone can credibly claim that he/she doesn't know that.  If you see a post that you think is problematic in that regard, please report it.

Be safe

We've had our first death in Rochester from Covid19. A 54 year old male that worked at RGH. This concerning to me because 1)his age 2)he worked in a hospital and most of all 3)he was not in that original group that were diagnosed as late as Friday, so that means he was sick and spreading it long before anyone knew he was even sick. Officials are saying he didn't contract it from a patient at the hospital but I don't believe them. Plenty of reasons to mislead the public on that.

https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/2020/03/18/coronavirus-first-upstate-ny-death-rochester-general-employee/5076041002/l Be careful man. Hopefully they provided accurate training on donning and doffing that N95. I'll be praying for you guys.

Editing to add: His underlying health issues are being reported as high blood pressure and he was a smoker.

Thursday @ 8:59 AM ET
I am writing to you from Bergamo, Italy, at the heart of the coronavirus crisis. The news media in the US has not captured the severity of what is happening here. I am writing this post because each of you, today, not the government, not the school district, not the mayor, each individual citizen has the chance, today to take actions that will deter the Italian situation from becoming your own country’s reality. The only way to stop this virus is to limit contagion. And the only way to limit contagion is for millions of people to change their behavior today.

If you are in Europe or the US you are weeks away from where we are today in Italy.

I can hear you now. “It’s just a flu. It only affects old people with preconditions”

There are 2 reasons why Coronavirus has brought Italy to it’s knees. First it is a flu is devastating when people get really sick they need weeks of ICU – and, second, because of how fast and effectively it spreads. There is 2 week incubation period and many who have it never show symptoms.

When Prime Minister Conte announced last night that the entire country, 60 million people, would go on lock down, the line that struck me most was “there is no more time.” Because to be clear, this national lock down, is a hail mary. What he means is that if the numbers of contagion do not start to go down, the system, Italy, will collapse.

Why? Today the ICUs in Lombardy are at capacity – more than capacity. They have begun to put ICU units in the hallways. If the numbers do not go down, the growth rate of contagion tells us that there will be thousands of people who in a matter of a week? two weeks? who will need care. What will happen when there are 100, or a 1000 people who need the hospital and only a few ICU places left?

On Monday a doctor wrote in the paper that they have begun to have to decide who lives and who dies when the patients show up in the emergency room, like what is done in war. This will only get worse.

There are a finite number of drs, nurses, medical staff and they are getting the virus. They have also been working non-stop, non-stop for days and days. What happens when the drs, nurses and medical staff are simply not able to care for the patients, when they are not there?

And finally for those who say that this is just something that happens to old people, starting yesterday the hospitals are reporting that younger and younger patients – 40, 45, 18, are coming in for treatment.

You have a chance to make a difference and stop the spread in your country. Push for the entire office to work at home today, cancel birthday parties, and other gatherings, stay home as much as you can. If you have a fever, any fever, stay home. Push for school closures, now. Anything you can do to stop the spread, because it is spreading in your communities – there is a two week incubation period – and if you do these things now you can buy your medical system time.

And for those who say it is not possible to close the schools, and do all these other things, locking down Italy was beyond anyone’s imagination a week ago.

Soon you will not have a choice, so do what you can now.

Please share.

No offense, hsif. I know there's no ill intent with this. But this is the kind of stuff I don't think we need to be spreading here. It might all be true and it might have been written by a Russian troll or some bored teenager (or 53-year-old man who doesn't have hockey to write about).
